"Dean!" Cas barged into the motel room.
"What's wrong?" Dean asked.
Cas put something on the ground. It was white and fluffy. "I... I found this on the side of the road..."
Sam stifled a laugh, "Cas, that's a dog."
"I know. But I found it. Who does it belong to?"
"Cas.. Where did you find the dog?" Dean asked.
"On the side of the road.."
"Where?" Dean repeated.
"On my way here. There weren't any houses nearby."
"Well, I guess it's yours now, Cas," Sam joked.
"Seriously?" Cas looked between the brothers, not being able to read either of their faces.
They laughed and Dean stood up, "well. What do you plan on doing with it?"
"What do you mean?"
"Put it back where you found it..? Take it to the town vet..? Or are you actually going to keep it?" Dean explained his question.
"What will give him his best chance?" Cas eyed the little ball of fur.
The dog had started exploring and was almost under the bed. Dean went over and picked it up. "This little guy? Probably keeping him or taking him to the vet."
"What will the vet do with it?"
"Wait for the owner to come around. If they don't, he'll either try to find it a new home or put him down," Sam told him.
"We can't put him down! He's too young..."
Dean laughed, "so, you're going to keep it? Cas, these things have to be fed, played with, trained, groomed, and let out to do its business."
"You think I can't handle a dog?"
"No, I didn-"
"What are you going to name him?" Sam cut Dean off.
"Uh... I don't know," Cas shrugged.
"Its name should be something it reminds you of. It should be something that comes to your mind when you look at it," Sam said.
"All I think of is that it's a dog that looks like a marshmallow," Cas admitted.
"Marshmallow?" Dean asked as he set the dog down, "you're going to name it Marshmallow?"
"I don't know. That's what it reminds me of..."
"I think Marshmallow is a perfectly good name for this dog," Sam defended Cas.
"Yeah," Cas said with more confidence, "his name is Marshmallow."
