"So, Castiel, did you ask anyone to the dance?" His mom asked him as she put dinner in the oven.
"Um, no. I haven't," he replied. He sat down at the island in their kitchen and sighed.
"Are you thinking about asking someone?"
"Well, yeah. Kind of, but I'm too nervous to."
"Castiel," she said softly, "you'll do fine. Just say that you've been thinking about them a lot and that you'd like it if you could take them to the winter formal."
~meanwhile~
Dean laid down on the couch and sighed loudly. He looked up at his dad and saw him still working. He sighed loudly again. John still worked.
He got up and muttered, "unbelievable." Then he went to his room and slammed the door.
"Hey," he heard from downstairs, "keep it down!" Of course John would hear the door.
Dean flopped on his bed and closed his eyes. A while later, he felt the presence of his brother near him.
"Dean?" His thirteen-year-old brother said softly.
Dean grunted a response.
"Are you okay?"
"If I say yes, would you leave me alone?"
"It's about that formal dance, isn't it?"
Dean sat up, "get out of my room."
Shocked, Sam ran out. Undoubtedly, he thought he was about to get a wedgie. But what Dean didn't know was that Sam had ran to their father and told him that Dean was nervous about asking someone to the dance.
A few minutes later, there was a knock on his door frame and he saw John standing there.
"Hey, kid," he said. After getting a short nod in response, he added, "can I come in?"
Dean sat up on his bed for his dad to sit down. For several silent moments, they sat there.
"Sammy says something's troubling you."
"Sam's a liar."
"Was he lying when he said you were nervous about asking someone to the party?"
"It's a dance."
"So, you are worried about it. Who is it?"
"No one," Dean said quietly.
"Dean," John sighed. "You can tell me."
"His name's Cas." Instantly, Dean's face went red as he waited for his father's reaction.
John nodded after a few seconds of shock, "alright. Well, if you're serious about asking him to the dance, then you have to get over the butterflies."
"You're not... Mad?"
His dad let out a short laugh, "mad? Should I be? He's not a troublemaker is he?"
Dean smiled slightly, "well, no."
"Dean," Sam came in with a phone and he held it out. "It's for you."
He was so worried about John's reaction that he hasn't heard the phone go off. He took it and held it to his ear.
"Hello?"
"Dean, I know we don't really know each other all that well and I called about three people to find your number and at first Benny didn't want to give me your number but then I told him why and so he-"
"Who is this?" Dean laughed.
"Oh, um, it's Castiel. I'm in several of your classes at school."
"Okay," Dean smiled widely.
John guessed who it was so he hurried out of the room with Sam.
"Anyways, I was wondering... Um.." Cas tried to continue.
"Would you like to go to the winter formal?" Dean blurted. "With me, I mean."
He heard Cas let out a breath before he answered, "yes. Oh gosh, yes!"
