The rain was crashing to the ground. They were standing on a hill, a cliff to be more specific. The thoughts were going through her mind like scared mice. Her anger turned into tears.
"You made a promise!"
She was screaming at him as loud as she could. Her mind was about to kill her. It felt like a headache but ten times worse. She didn't care.
"You made a promise!"
The tears were running down her face, so close to faint. The stress level for her was so high that it wasn't just a mental break down anymore.
"I am so sorry"
He was standing there feeling like somebody just ripped out pieces of his heart. With every scream she made and every sentence she shouted another piece was ripped out.
"You knew how important promises are to me and you still broke yours!"
He tried to go up to her and pull her away from the cliff but with every step he went closer to her she went closer to the edge. If a person would fall off there...
"I told you not to make promises if you can't hold them! I told you!"
Her anger turned into sadness her words weren't filled with anger anymore. You could hear the pain through her voice. The heartbreak, the suffer she went through until today.
"I can't live without you"
Something she got to hear so much from him. There is only one person who can get the needed amout of attention and it was not her.
"If you would just let me step back and not put my hopes back up high we wouldn't be here!"
She told him almost every time that it would be okay for her to step back so he could have time for other things, more important things. He always said no. Why? He loves her. But it seems like you can still hurt someone with loving them too much.

If they would've talked about it and made a plan, it would be easier. He tried to cover the obvious and she always fell for it. Not anymore. If they continue like that her heart, her love, will be totally drained by false hope. She can take a lot but being excited just to let down again wasn't something she could take forever. Just already say the words. The words she already knew. He tried to give everyone what they want but to be happy himself he could only serve one person, his person, his girl. That girl wasn't the one at the edge of the cliff, in the rain, pouring her heart out and talking about everything she kept in for so long.
She didn't hate him, no, she loved him. That was the mistake. She got attached to somebody she surely couldn't keep. How often did she tell him that and how often did he say that things wouldn't change?
Too often.
She can't take it anymore.
There are two options: things go back to the beginning or she learns to live without him in a certain way.
Either way, one will suffer. She cares, too much.
Without wasting any minute, she decides to choose the option that would be the hardest on herself.
She learned something. She learned that social media was right. Everyone will find someone better or leave eventually. Those aren't just quotes for sad teenagers, they portrait reality.
"I love you and that drains my energy!"
When did they have their last real conversation? 4 days ago?
Four days, it used to be an everyday-thing.
"It's my fault, don't worry about it. Just another mistake, disappointed but not surprised.", said the girl sinking to the ground, falling on her knees.
Again, he tried to come closer.
"DON'T... please, I can't take another crash"
Everytime, she had hope that their situation would get better, everytime he promised to have more time for her. As expected, it didn't work and her hopes were crashed to the ground. Her heart broke a little every time it happened. She tried to keep her distance but she still loved him, her brother.
He was always stressed, had to take care of others and didn't have time for himself. It hurt her to see him like that. She told him that he should use the time he would waste on her to take care of himself. Break-time, literally.
She sat on the ground, crying. The rain had stopped, the wind became stronger. He started to freeze. She didn't feel pain, or anything at all.
"What have we become?"
She looked in his eyes. He saw nothing. Her eyes, her soul were empty. No emotion. The watery eyes seemed knocked out, drained.
"I knew this would happen and I still believed you. Everyone tells us to see life from the bright side, be positive. I broke my number one rule and see where we are right now. I'm sorry I dragged you into this"
When she finished the sentence he was already next to her, hugging her. An apology? But for what?
Technically, it was her fault.
It continued like before, some i love you's and i miss you's were said but what did change?
Her feelings. She listened to herself again, expected the worst.
And again, she was right all along. That was when she started counting the days until she would have totally lost the person she loved the most.
