24th June 1351

Salutations my friend,

Most of us have survived another month of the plague as our friends and neighbours have been gradually locked in their homes and their doors marked with terrifying big red crosses. There have been a few quarantine sheds built outside of town but very few are lucky enough to get shipped off there to save their families. My younger brother Harry was shipped off yesterday, because as we were performing our daily check for sores, Harry yelped and ran out the door so suddenly there was almost a trail of dust in his wake. He has the plague. I doubt that if another one of us catches it we will be so lucky. Tomorrow is Samuel's 9th birthday. He doesn't want to celebrate without his older brother. He is distraught; he wanted to go with Harry to quarantine even though he knew he would get sick, he still wanted to be with his brother. We couldn't let Samuel go though, for Mother and Father, losing one son was already far too much to bear. There have been a few remedies tried but none have had a significant success rate. Most of us lower class people who have used the arsenic amulet have died and those that lived more often credited God for their salvation rather than the amulet. However, I think otherwise. I think that it is just coincidence, for those who survived wouldn't have gotten the Plague even without their so called 'remedies'. People are losing hope and they're losing the will to live. I'm not sure if any of us are going to make it out alive from this. Families are being torn apart, people are running rampant. Last week they shut down the tavern. Even though they mainly act calmly, people are scared. They fear for their lives and their family's lives.

That is all for now, Samuel's birthday is in need of celebrating,

9 years old is a great achievement, I remember my 9th Birthday.
