The only thing I could remember, going up the elevator shaft was my name: Amelia. I don't remember my parents. I don't remember what I had for breakfast this morning. Hell, I don't even remember my last name.
I looked around and all I saw was pitch black. The only sense I have that's working is whatever sense senses motion. I was just going up. I had no idea where up was, but that's were I'm going.
I screamed and shouted for someone to hear me and stop the damn thing, but it kept moving. I banged on the roof and on the side of the cage, but it still moved.
Soon enough, I heard voices. "Hello?!" I shouted. "Someone please help me!"
Light flooded into the darkness, causing me to squint my eyes to keep them from going blind. When I got used to it, I looked up at a group of boys.
"It's another girl!" One shouted.
"It's call her this time!"
"Thomas will probably hitch her like he did the first!"
"Shuck off!"
I winced as a brunet jumped down into the cage. "Hi, I'm Thomas, what's your name?" He smiled softly.
I kept my mouth shut and backed away until I hit the cold metal of the cage. He came closer and coaxed me into getting out. When I looked up, I saw a guy with brown hair and tan skin like mine. I walked closer and just hugged him. I don't know why, but it felt right. When I pulled away and looked into his eyes, I noticed who he was.
"Winston?" I asked. "You've been gone for so long!"
I hugged him again and when I pulled away this time, he looked at me weird. "Who are you?"
"Stop being silly." I laughed as I playfully punched his shoulder.
"I seriously have no idea who you are." He backed away.
"Oh." I looked down and felt a hand on my shoulder. I shuddered and turned around to see a familiar blond.
"What's your name, greenie?" He had thick, british accent that I would be swooning over if I wasn't scared.
"A-amelia." I hoarsely wispered.
"Hi, Amelia, I'm Newt." He smiled. A colored guy came up to me and smiled.
"I'm the leader, Alby." He said.
"And I'm Gally." A guy with weird eyebrows pushed in front of Alby and held his hand out for me to shake. "I'll show you around."
"Actually, she's gonna be shown around by me." A blond with curly hair moved Gally out of the way. "I'm Zart."
"Too late, Zart, I called dibs." Another one pushed past him. "I'm Minho."
"Can, can I show myself around?" I looked at Alby.
"No, I'll have Thomas here show you around." He nodded towards the brunet that helped me out. He waved akwardly and I saw a brunette girl coming from a building in the corner.
"Hi, I'm Teresa." She smiled as she grabbed Thomas's hand. I suppose that's what they were talking about when I got here.
"Well, I guess we'll start with the deadheads." Thomas said.
Thomas showed me the deadheads, the gardens, and the homestead before Newt called a meeting. We went to the middle of the so-called 'Glade' and waited for someone to speak.
"Alright!" Alby shouted, causing the uproar to die down. "Now we have had two girls in the last two months. Things are changing, I can feel it. It all happened when Thomas appeared!"
"Banish them!" Gally yelled. "Not Amelia, though."
"Gally, you should be banished for being a self-centered asshole!" Minho shouted.
"Oh yeah?!" Gally pushed Minho to the ground and Newt pulled them apart.
"Hey! I'll throw you both to the bloody grievers if you don't stop!" He barked.
"Uh, guys." I repeatedly slapped Thomas's shoulder. "What's that sound?"
"It's just the walls changing inside the-" Minho was interrupted by Newt.
"Maze." Newt pointed a shaky finger towards the gap in the walls that surrounded us. "The doors aren't closing! Everyone hide!"
Everything happened in the blink of and eye. Someone grabbed my hand and pulled me at a slow, but rushing pace. I couldn't tell who it was, but I noticed they had a limp.
He pulled me to the homestead and we went to the very top floor before he let go and started boarding the walls. It was then that I noticed it was Newt who grabbed my hand and now Thomas and Zart are helping him barricade the window.
I ran to the corner, confused as to what was happening when everyone got quiet. I heard clicking and clacking with fingernails tapping on metal. A few whirring sounds were made and soon enough I heard the sound of metal on wood.
"We're all gonna die!" Gally's shrill scream sounded through the whole room. "They'll take us one by one every night! It's all their fault!"
He went to the window and started pulling the wood of off it. "Gally, no!" Thomas lunged towards him, but a claw struck through the wood right in front of him. He yelped and fell backwards while Gally continued to jerk the wood off of the window.
The griever stuck another claw in and Gally grabbed onto it. Thomas, Minho, Winston, and Newt tried to hold him back, but it was too strong. Gally was jerked out of the window and the whirring and clicking faded off into the distance.
"Is everyone okay?" Newt stood up slowly. Everyone silently nodded and made we made our way to the bottom floor.
"What the hell was that?" I asked, horrified.
"That, my friend, was a griever." Newt shifted his weight onto the balls of his feet and back down.
"What a great first day, huh?" I chuckled, breaking the ice.
"Better than mine." He countered. "I went into the maze with Minho and we almost got killed by grievers."
"Well, I did have like 20 guys who are twice the size of me to protect me, so I guess I did get the good first day." I smiled.
"You're smile is bloody gorgeous!" He exclaimed.
"Stop, I'm blushing." I grinned, looking down.
"Do you remember anything from your past?" He asked.
"Yea, but you wouldn't believe m-"
"We're escaping!" Thomas shouted. "I don't know when, but it's happening!"
The next day, I had to help Thomas, Teresa, Newt, and Minho in the map rooms since I'm a girl and I could possibly have something to do with the whole griever attack. We searched for the answer all day until sunset came and the walls didn't close. They took a guy named Adam and the next day we started working again.
"Guys, what if we compare them by sections instead of days?" I questioned, getting the first set of every section. I connected them and made twists and turns with the help of Thomas while Newt and Minho watched over my shoulders. I noticed that words were forming within each day. "Float. Catch. Bleed. Death. Stiff. Push."
"Wait," Thomas wrote down the words and looked at Newt. "Maybe this is a code to get out through the griever hole!"
"We found a way out!" I squealed and hugged Newt. He laughed as I pulled away and composed myself.
"What makes you think I'll jump in the shuck griever hole!?" Minho jumped back.
"It's the only way out!"
"Look, guys," I craned my neck to look at the two of them. "Yea, we might loose some people, but think of all the people we'll save. It might just take three people to get thirty out. Are we willing to do this? Or did everyone who died before us die for nothing? Come on."
"Amelia's right." Teresa spoke up. "What if their is a way out? We can't do this if we don't try."
"When do we start?" Minho asked.
