January -1998

It has been a few weeks since we agreed to just be friends, but ever since that day all I've been thinking about is paul. I can't get him out of my mind it's like I made a mistake in just being friends. I decided it was time for me to get out of the house, I texted Taylor and Rebecca we decided to go out for drinks. I decided to wear a tight fitted dress with heals, I was finishing my makeup when I heard a honk outside. I looked out my window noticing it was Taylor and Rebecca waiting for me. I walked down the stairs noticing Paul was sitting on the couch talking to my brother. Paul turned around looking at me making eye contact. I looked into his blue ocean eyes, sending shivers down my spine. "Hey," I said nervously. He smiled, "Hey," he replied. My brother turned to look at both of us awkwardly "Ill be home late so don't wait up for me" he just nodded as I walked out. I got into the car, after an hour of driving we finally arrived at one of the bars. We all sat near the bar talking about what had happened in the last few weeks. I noticed Rebecca was acting a bit weird every since Paul had arrived, I knew something was off but didn't want to bring anything up. I began to talk to Taylor when Rebecca left to go to the restroom "Do you notice something off about Rebecca" I asked Taylor waiting for a response "No, she seems normal to me" I slid my hand through my hair. I didn't know what to believe but I decided to just change the subject "So, Paul..." I told her everything that had happened. With her mouth open, she couldn't believe it "Cassie, he confessed his love to you after so many years and all you say is friends" Even my best friend knew I had made a mistake. I saw Rebecca coming out of the bathroom and immediately changed the topic. She sat down and looked depressed, there was something off "Becs are you okay?" I asked she turned to look at me "Yeah, I'm fine" I didn't want to let it go. But I knew it was the right thing to do. We continued to drink and finally, the night was over. I headed home and noticed my brother was still awake, I walked into the living room sitting on the same couch as him. "What was Paul doing here" I asked. He looked at me studying my question "We just wanted to catch up before he left, I looked down at my nails "When is he leaving again" he looked at me again wondering why I was asking so many questions "Next week why?" I tried to not say this but since I was already tipsy it just came out of me "We should go camping, for his last week here" my brother smiled and nodded "That's an awesome idea" I smiled and headed upstairs not knowing what I just got myself into

The week had passed quickly, I did my rotations for the week. Did my assignments, met new patients. During my residency, I didn't have as much time to have fun and go on adventures. But since we were doing this for paul, I decided to work hard this whole week to have free time to go camping. I headed home since it was Friday it had arrived and it was the day we were leaving for our camping trip. I had packed weeks before because I didn't want to stress out on that say. I headed to my brother's old room, where he was staying just for this past month. "Are you ready" I said, leaning on the doorway. I looked around his room clothes all over the floor. Ever since we were small he was always unorganized. I laughed looking at him throwing clothes in his suitcase.  "Jaxon, you legit had a week to pack and you waited till today" He rolled his eyes, walking back from the restroom to his room "Are you even done packing" I smiled and raised my eyebrow "You're really asking me that question" I had packed all the supplies needed, clothes, food, money, and sleeping bags. One reason is I'm probably the most responsible person, I even had to be the one to rent out two cabins one for the girls and another for the boys, because my brother had forgotten. I decided to get my own cabin for me and Taylor since we didn't want to be with everyone sleeping. I texted Taylor asking if she was on her way. She replied saying she was outside with Paul, I walk out of my brother's room. I walked into my room grabbing my bags, I headed downstairs. I walked out of the house with a bunch of my bags over my shoulder almost tripping, when I heard a voice "Need help there" I dropped all my bags and saw him standing there. "well of course I do" I responded with a laugh. Paul helped me with all my bags as we placed them in the trunk of my car.
