True Colours

"5,6,7,8! and 1,2,3,4..." the choreographer shouted as they rehearsed the finale. The song played as they danced out the number. "Ugh, this song was annoying before and it's 100 times more annoying after we've danced to it a million times." Danielle complained. "There will be no putting down of others' music here. Especially when they are so accomplished at as young as some of you." the director announced. "I'm only one year younger than JoJo!" Danielle protested. "Debatable, but your point is?" Hayley jutted in. "I don't know... I just... wanted to like..." She trailed off. "That's what I thought." Hayley smirked to Piper and Sophie. "I really like JoJo's music." Piper said. "It's super fun and upbeat." She continued. "That's cuz you're like 12!" Danielle yelled. "You're 13!" Piper screamed back. "15!" Danielle protested back. "Girls! Quiet!" The director silenced them. Piper and Danielle glared at each other and went back to practicing. "I can't believe that in one more week, we will have survived an entire summer with Danielle Cohn." Jayden whispered to Annie. "Yeah, let's try not to think about summer being over." Annie reminded her. "Oh, right. Sorry" Jayden apologized as she looked down. "Okay, last time for today!" the director shouted. "As long as we're together, it's only getting better!" Jojo's voice sang as Johnny, Kenzie, Gracie, Matt, Annie and Asher stood up from their bow in the front-centre of the stage. Everyone else stood up from their bow behind them. "Okay! Can I have 2 volunteers to teach the bow sequence and the ending to Matt and Gracie once they get out of their rehearsal for What If?"The director asked. "I'll do it!" Justin said as he shot his hand up in the air. The director raised an eyebrow but didn't say anything. "I need to make sure those two are really letting their emotions tell the story." Justin said to no one in particular as he winked to himself. "I need one more." The director continued. "I'll help him." Danielle said before anyone else could. Then she walked closer to him and draped his arm around her. "Okay, now that that's settled, you are dismissed." The director announced. Everyone broke off into their smaller groups and began to talk.

"I can't believe we only have a little over a week until highschool!" Olivia exclaimed to the group of girls her age. Her, Annie, Jayden and Ruby were wandering around the field. "Maybe I'll see you around school." Ruby told Olivia. Olivia shook her head. "While that would be awesome, We actually don't live in L.A." She informed them. Jayden had a confused look on her face. "Then why did you ask us if we were gonna go to Hollywood High School the first night?" she asked. Olivia shrugged. "I just figured everyone was going there and wanted to... seem friendly I guess?" she tried to explain, but it ended up as more of a question. Ruby nodded. "Oh, well. You have Instagram?" she asked. Olivia nodded. "But my parents kinda manage it, so I don't usually get around to messaging people on it and stuff." Ruby frowned. "How about a phone?" She suggested. "Ya, I have that." Olivia laughed. "Well then we should all get each other's numbers near the end of camp and we can make a freshman girls' group caht!" Ruby planned out. "Sounds great, but Ruby, you're a little hyper right now, I think you need to cut it out with the sugar binges." Jayden said. They all laughed.

When Matt and Gracie walked out of the singing room they were laughing so loud, Justin and Danielle could hear them from the other side of the field. "Hey guys! What's so funny?" Justin asked as they met in the middle. "Oh, inside joke." said as he waved his hand. "Okay... so Dani and I are supposed to teach you the bow sequence and the ending of the finale." Gracie nodded. "So we can do it here if you want. There's lots of space." Justin suggested. Matt and Gracie agreed, and Justin and Danielle began to teach them when to bow and what groups to go with and what poses to do for the end. When they were done, Danielle clapped her hands. "And that's it! Good job guys, you got it!" Matt and Gracie shared a look. "Hey, Danielle, how come you're so much more uptight during practices and... pretty much any time other than now?" Gracie questioned. Danielle shrugged. "I just feel so uncomfortable and judged when we're in that group, like everyone's waiting for an opportunity to kick me out or get me in trouble." She explained. "No, No, you shouldn't feel like that. I think that some people just think that you're a little... spoiled" "bratty" Danielle said at the same time as Gracie. "Well... it's just kind of because of how you... maybe over-expressed your... entitlement to a bigger role in the play, and how you didn't want to go in the pool because you thought your clothes would get wrecked and... you know..." Gracie trailed off. "I sort of get it." said Danielle. "But I think that they should stop expecting me to be like that, and stop making fun of me in order to make me act like that." Gracie nodded. "Hey guys, it's 5 minutes till dinner." Matt interrupted. "Ooo. I bet tonight is Taco in a bag with Doritos!" Justin told them. Danielle started to groan, but then stopped herself. "Now, I'm starting to see it." She said as they jogged over to the gazebo.

That night, after they played manhunt all throughout the camp, the director told them to meet in the gym. When they arrived there were couches set up all around a blank screen. "What's going on?" They all asked. The lights all turned off and everyone gasped. Then they came back on and the director was standing in front of the screen with a microphone in her hand. "As you may have guessed, we will not be doing our regularly scheduled campfire tonight. In case you weren't aware, today is August 23rd, which means..." "1 week until our show!" Hayley, Piper and Sophie, who seemed to very excited about it called out. Jenna gasped. "Oh, Yay! I'm so happy!" she exclaimed. The director waited until it was silent again. "Although that is very exhilarating and all, that is not the reason we are gathered here tonight. The reason we are here, and you may have guessed from the projector; is to eat ice cream and chips, drink pop and watch the brand-new Brat feature film Intern In Chief!" Everyone cheered except for Annie, whose face fell into her hands. "It even features some of our very own, Annie and Hayley Leblanc!" She shouted as she motioned her hand towards Hayley and Annie. Annie quickly sat up and smiled at everyone. Then the lights went off and the screen filled with the Extra gum ad.
