Tanya's POV
10 Years Later at the Cabin
"Hey moooom! It's time for school! Hurry up I'm going to be late!" I hear Harper shout out. Have I gone mad, or do children get louder with age? I hear Harper running up the stairs getting her things together.
"Be careful sweet heart! Watch your step! Come back down, I don't want you to miss breakfast!" She runs back down with her backpack in hand. And here I thought I would end up with a child that would loathe going to school.
"Here you are sweet heart." I serve her bananas with pancakes, her favorite. She digs right in.
"Thanks mom." Harper says, with a mouthful of pancake in her mouth.
"Now now, you remember the rules young lady. No talking with your mouth full." I remind her. She rolls her eyes and continues on eating. I pinch her little cheek. She moves my hand out of the way.
"Mom. I'm a big girl now, you don't have to keep treating me like a baby." I laugh at her comment.
"Yes, you're right. My little is all grown up now." I pretend to agree with her. Best to tell her what she wants to hear than to disagree with her. I then kiss her on the forehead.
"Mom! I'm eating."
"I know. I'm sorry honey. You keep enjoying your breakfast. I'll leave your bag in the car."
I walk out to the car and leave her bag inside, and turn on the car to increase the heat. Have to be sure my little one is warm and toasty. As the human saying goes
"Hey mom, I'm done with breakfast."
"Ok sweet heart. Wash your plate, then we'll be on our way to school. Don't forget your coat."
I hear her quickly get off her seat and wash her dishes. She hops into the car. We make our way to her school. I turn on the radio, and she sings along to a song playing.
"Staring at the blank page before you.
Open up the dirty window, let the sun illuminate the words you cannot find.
Reaching for something in the distance,
so close you can almost taste, release your inhibitions. Feel the rain on your skin, no one else can feel it for you, only you can let it in.
No one else, no one else can speak the words on your lips. Drench yourself in words unspoken. Live your life with arms wide open, today, where your book begins. The rest is still unwritten."I smile at her, while she sings and claps along to the rhythm of the music.
My little girl is getting so big. That makes me sad, I miss rocking her to sleep in my arms. No matter. I'm just happy to have her with me. My little miracle.
