One and Only

Finally, me and Naira had sorted out our differences, heck they were some amazing level weren't they, things became so messed up, and we allowed.

Life is so fickle like that, one wrong moment, and every right turns around, but just like that, inspite of every build up, every wrong also turns to take the right turn.

Me and Naira had brought Kairav to the park today, and I was probably the happiest man on earth, having her back again, and having a bundle, which was infact no more a bundle of hay sticks, but of bamboo sticks, had be joyous, I had probably forgotten the existence of such an emotion.

He was such a carbon copy of me, looks, naughtiness, care all of me, but a fighter, persistent fighter, like his mom, like MY WIFE.

We stubborn souls, had taken each other back again, it was but a recent development, we were yet to announce it to the world, it really wasn't a easy thing to announce either, but I won't bother about that at the moment, I was too content with just having my arms around the two most precious people for me, to even bother about something else.

"Papa, I want a Bhutta" Kairav pulled me back from my reverie, when he saw a vendor selling it, and who I was I to deny the young man.

"Kartik, you don't have to accept his every demand." Naira chided me, but heck, I had my son after so many years, we will care later about spoilt kids, I was in no way deny my son of anything at all. I pouted to her, and she rolled her eyes and muttered something about, "baccha bilkul baap par gaya hai" a line absolute music to my ears!

I HAD A KID!!

We raced to the vendor and I obviously lost, and brought three of them for us, knowing my sherni also loved them, seeing all of it, I recalled something in past, something very very special, and got to work. Removing the kernels of poor corn, I finally understood it was easy when done it dreams, but it worked out, and I saw Naira looking at me with query when I gave that to her.

"I Love You" it said, she smiled, she actually smiled, was I so newly in love with this woman, that the curve of her lips was the most beautiful curve for my whole world. Shaking her head a bit, she removed a few more kernels, and gave it back again, writing, "More"

I shook my head, and wrote "No, I love you more" she stared and glared me down, removing few more, "NO!" In capitals, I gave it back, "NO" in bold letters, in our engrossed non verbal, no volume fight, we had used quite a few sweet corns, now that the vendor had come in between to save his poor produce.

"Mumma, papa, why are you guys throwing all the kernels like that, are they not good? Mine is very tasty?" Kairav said, looking at us confused.

I think we looked pure sheepish, we had a kid!!! What were we doing exactly, "uhmm, oh yes, we were removing the seeds for birds, you see, they are hungry no?"

"But there are no birds" he countered, and I saw, there indeed were no birds. I nodded noticing that, the most exaggerated nods!

"Kairav, birds will come, when they smell, thus we were removing it for them!" Naira added a little too quickly

"Yes, any minute now, chalo lets go and play, shall we!" I said, again not wanting for him to get an idea of bird watching.

Naira also picked up the fact, of not being a foolish parent was rule no. 1 in books of parenting, so hurried him up.

Putting him on to the nearest swing, and pushing the swing over, we were having time of our lives. I didn't notice when Naira went to the other side of park, I followed her, telling Kairav we were only a shout away, and to tell if he needed anything, also asking a gentleman to please pay attention for two minutes.

I found her staring past the end, not really focusing, just looking on, I hugged her from behind, and she was too startled unexpecting. Put she melted as soon as she realised it was me, "We have been so stupid Kartik."

I chuckled, "Yes, if there was scale of 10, we would get scored 100" she snorted, and said, "We cannot do this anymore, it's not only us now, Kairav depends on us, our stupidities would affect him now"

"We won't, I'm tempted to make promises to you, but I won't, you know, we love each other, we never stopped, but we both now have an anchor, to pull us together", I turned her around to show our kid, "he won't let us be stupid anymore, well not more than what we are due anyway."

She dug her way into my chest, while I buried myself into her hair, it was too peaceful to move, it had been so long, and the time had been moving in the slowest of its pace, I felt like I aged 20 years in span of only 5, but no more, i wished for it to stop now, so that me and my whole world will stay perfect, just this perfect.

When has the world listened to my demands though? Someone pulled me back, and was about to give a sharp slap across my face, while I was too shocked to move, Naira caught hold of her hand. Had I not been shocked, I would have laughed at the dramatics of the whole scenario, but it was indeed Devika, oh sorry, no sorry.

"Vedika, you are not allowed to hit him." Naira shouted at her.

"And who are you to tell me that?" She shouted back.

"I'm his love, I'm the mother of his child, I'm the only person who can love him back, I'm the only person he ever loved.." she was about to go on, when I added, "and my wife."

Devika looked like I had two heads, "Kartik I can file a case of adultery on you, you do realise that right? I'm your wife, we are married, she is no one."

"Vedika stop! I thought you were a friend first? But how dare you say she is no one, she is everything to me. And you know that, don't you dare forget that, even if she wasn't my wife, she would still be everything."

But I added, "But incidentally, it so happens that you cannot file a adultery case. Section 497, of the Indian Penal Court, was cancelled only few years ago. And the part where I said she was my ex-wife, it seems that I was ill informed, she was missing for all but five years, according to law, she is very much my wife, and you, hold no say in that."

"Vedika I am sorry for everything wrong that happened with you, but I have never lied to you, and I won't today either, Naira is my whole world, always has been, even when se isn't in my world."

I paused and breathed, it was a time to come clean, " I never promised to love you, if you would like, I would still happily take all the responsibilities of yours, monetarily or otherwise, but I cannot give you what you want, you always knew that."

"Vedika we are sorry, for this, me and Kairav, we didn't know, we would hamper, but you see, no one of us can ever be happy, if we let this go on. We, me, Kartik, we have wronged you, but it would be just as wrong to allow you into our lives." Naira explained it to her.

"If he were even to remain with you, he would never be yours, you know that, you always knew that, even if I had not showed up, it would always remain so, so stop dreaming those happy dreams which you know, will never come true" she repeated.

"He is mine, in my presence or absence, no one can change that, nothing can change that" she said again, and I smiled, I was hers, nothing else mattered to me.

Vedika ran away, and looking at her, Kairav came to us running, "Why did Devika aunty go away?"

"Because she wanted something and we didn't give it to her" Naira told the kid, and I rolled my eyes. Yea right, and pulled them both in the circle of my arms again, forgetting the world for one more time, she was wronged may be, but nothing would be more wrong that continuing that wrong.

And life had turned just about right. Kairav and Kaira, now all we needed was a Kairvii, Naira hit me when I suggested that, but Kairav high fived, soon!
