The next day, Jax seemed to avoid me and Rachael was bent on finding out what The Demons (as she fondly called Jamie and Claire) had asked me about.
"Come on, Glow. I'm starting to think you're hiding stuff from me." Rachael whined, chewing on her gum fiercely.
"You shouldn't chew gum," I said, stretching. "It's bad for your teeth." Rachael narrowed her eyes at me and then proceeded to begin her own warm ups, clearly angry. I sighed. I didn't want her to be angry at me already.
"Rachael, I'm sorry, it's just that I've told you everything they told me. Even the cute boy part. You just don't believe that's it!"
"Because that can't be it!" Rachael said, spinning on her heel to face me. "Those girls are demons. Didn't they say mean things and gossip?" I furrowed my brows. What was she so curious about?
"Of course they gossiped and stuff but I didn't join them," I frowned "They were mostly just nice, Rach. I think you're getting at nothing."
Rachael didn't answer, so we spent the hours training in silence.
Towards the end of training, Levon walked up to me wearing a warm smile on his face.
"You're doing really well, Glow. It's as if you spend all day training." My laugh came out high pitched and false.
"Whaaaaat? All day training? Ha...ha..." Levon nodded, oblivious to my fake laughter.
"Whatever you're doing, it's working. I want you to keep it up." I smiled, this time it was genuine.
"Thank you."
"It's no problem." Still smiling, he walked away. He was obviously happy with my improvement. I could feel myself smiling too.
Suddenly, Jamie and Claire appeared beside me, holding their sabers.
"Seems you had a lot of fun with Levon." Claire said, looking anything but happy. Jamie nudged her discreetly and turned to me.
"Don't mind Claire. She's on her period." She said, fixing Claire with a cold stare.
I laughed nervously and bit my lower lip. "Oh, um, that's okay." Jamie nodded.
"Good. Anyway, I noticed you improved a lot since you came here."
"Yeah," Claire chimed in. "You went from zero to... six." I raised an eyebrow.
"Uh...thanks?" Claire smiled widely, but it wasn't genuine.
"That's okay." Jamie rolled her eyes.
"Annnywayyyy, I heard Trent is coming today." She said, her eyes shining now.
"Trent?" I repeated, feeling dumb. She rolled her eyes again before covering it with a smile.
"Yes, Trent. Your teammate, Trent." She was placing alot of emphasis on 'Trent'.
"Is he a new teammate?" I asked, feeling dumber by the second. This time, Jamie let out an exasperated sigh.
"You really don't know who Trent is?" Claire rolled her eyes and mumbled something I didn't catch.
"No." I shook my head miserably. Jamie's left eye twitched.
"Trent is a member of the Blue Dragons. He's your teammate, just not a new one. A really good one." Claire giggled.
"And he's cute. Like, ridiculously cute. He and Jax, your trainer, compete all the time. It's funny really, but it just gives us a chance to gawk at their muscles." I blinked, not knowing how to respond.
"Well?" Jamie questioned, raising an eyebrow "Aren't you excited?" I cleared my throat.
"Um...well, I...I don't know how to feel. I don't know him yet. "
"Well you didn't know that loser Rachael when you came and now you guys are the best of buds." She said, unimpressed.
I looked over at Rachael (who was slicing a dummy determinedly with her saber) and my friendship-anger flared.
"Rachael is actually a super nice person, Jamie. She's the reason why I've been able to pass through this training camp with no problems." Jamie rolled her eyes and Claire placed a hand on her hip, looking bored.
"So you're really gonna defend a loser, huh?" I swallowed, becoming more angry.
"She's not a loser. She's a great friend. " Claire shrieked, making some of the trainees turn around and glance at her.
"You made her your friend?" She asked, in disgust. I nodded, seeing through Jamie and Claire's sickly sweet attitude.
"Wow," Jamie sneered, looking anything but happy "You made a loser your friend." She shook her head before inspecting her nails. "You're just delusional. Offer to sit with us at lunch still stands but get rid of that - " She shuddered " - loser." With that, they both flicked their hair over the shoulders and left.
I glanced over at Rachael, swallowing hard. She had been right about them, just not about the timing of when they'd strike. I wondered what made Jamie and Claire hate her so much. She was a really cool person
We'd even almost established ourselves as besties!.
Groaning, I went into my stance and un sheathed my saber. I had to take my mind off things and just train. Levon would probably call me back to attention anyway.
I steeled myself and began to copy Levon's slow but effective moves.
________
Just when I was practically dragging myself across the floor, everyone turned to the door, fixated on the angel that had walked into the room.
He was really tall, dark haired (which looked a-ma-zinggg!!) and he was very handsome. He had striking blue orbs that held confidence and warmth. Not the cocky, aggravating confidence but the warmth and confident attitude of a true friend.
He walked into the room and Levon took his time to talk to him. All the girls in the room were fawning over him and giggling among theirselves.
After the conversation with Levon was becoming a lot longer and the girls less interested, Jamie appeared behind me.
"Boo!" She exclaimed. I jumped a little before turning around.
"Oh...Jamie...didn't see you there."
"Why? Mesmerized by your teammate, Trent?" Everything suddenly clicked into place.
"Wait, that's Trent?" Claire suddenly appeared beside Jamie, rolling her eyes.
"Yes, Glow. Dumb doesn't suit you." Jamie suddenly stepped in at this point.
"Well...we gotta go." Claire wiggled her eyebrows.
"Trent's done talking to Levon." I watched as Jamie flung herself on Trent as soon as he started walking towards the rest of the class. He seemed irritated as she fawned over him and touched every part of his body that she could.
After uncomfortably tearing Jamie's hand off his arm, Trent began to walk towards-
Me?!
