"No you don't care! You don't appreciate your home and you manipulate us all! You are just like them Veronica."
My mom yelled. No one ever calls me by my real name, except for my mother when she gets mad. Everyone calls me Vee.
"Who said I didn't appreciate it? And telling you that I got close with Ashley isn't manipulative!"
"You knew exactly what you were doing."
"Oh so I'm too dumb to know Ashley was drunk but I'm smart enough to make you mad at me by telling you we had a good talk?"
Ashley is my stepmom. My parents have been divorced since I was like 3, and I just turned 18 a few weeks ago.
I live in New Jersey with my mom and stepdad. My dad lives in South Carolina and I just got home from visiting him today. While I was there I talked to Ashley about things I would never talk to my real mom about and I felt like I could really trust her. Well jokes on me. Ashley promised me to not tell anyone, but she called my mom and told her everything. A week before that, my mom came to South Carolina with me for the first couple of days, because my dad and mom are still good friends. Ashley and my mom went out, and from what my mom said Ashley got hammered, like really drunk. I didn't know, but when they came home I was playing on the Xbox with my sister, and I wasn't paying attention to my mom and stepmom. I didn't realize it then, but when I went back to New Jersey I told my mom that I got really close to Ashley. She was pissed. She started to tell me all the crazy things Ashley said to her, and that I shouldn't trust her. I told her that it really sucked because I was thinking about moving with my dad. My mom flipped. She started saying that I was just like my stepmom and that I tried to make her mad by telling her we were close. And that brings us to now."Maybe you should move there. Because I would rather not spend my time and money on someone who doesn't appreciate me" she said, she's been saying I don't appreciate her for like a month now and I've done everything I could to try and make her feel loved.
I just cried. "I don't know what to do to make you feel appreciated though."
"You can't. Because I know you don't."
I looked the bitch dead in the eye."As far as your concerned, I don't live here anymore." I said. I mean I'm old enough to move out so..
"Fine by me"
I didn't care that was all she had to say. I grabbed a suitcase from my closet and threw all my clothes in it. I went on an airline website and booked a flight to LA, California. My cousin lived there and we were like sisters, but I didn't give her a heads up I was coming. I needed to get out of this house fast, but I didn't want to live with my dad so I had no where else to go but California. It was currently 7:00 pm and my flight leaves at 9:55. I got my older brother to drive me to the airport. We said our goodbyes and I left. This was it. I'm leaving. I went through security and all that and then stopped at Starbucks to get coffee. I ordered and then waited for my drink. I grabbed a straw but on my way out I dropped it. I bent down to pick it up but then found my hand underneath someone else's. I looked up and gazed into a pair of bright teal eyes. My eyes trailed up to his hair. It was peach ish, it was long and straight and split down the middle. I caught myself in a dream but snapped back to reality. He was staring back at me and at this point the straw was still on the floor and no one was about to pick it up. He blinked and shook his head slightly and picked it up
"You dropped this."
