I rode my mustang to the place where the races were held it was the first place to look for if you're searching for skilled drivers, I was sent to investigate the people who were suspected to be the ones hijacking the trucks I looked around taking in my surroundings as the place swarmed with half-naked women and men boasting about their cars their egos controlling their most actions.Men were looking at me as I got out of the car, but I really didn't care I was so focused on my job, I leaned on my car crossing my arms around my chest, when someone caught my eyes, he was a bulky man with little to no hair on his head but it made him look more handsome I recognized the man as Dominic Toretto one on the not so long list of suspected criminals whom I had to investigate, he was surrounded with his family, Brian to his right draping his hands on Mia's shoulder, they looked intimate making me assume they were dating, I looked at the rest of the group knowing every one of them like the back of my hand having studied their files, but the files is something and the reality is something else.
I put my hands in my pocket feeling the money there as I saw in the corner of my eyes someone approaching me, "Hey girl, nice car. You new here?"
I turned to the guy approaching me he was slightly short wearing a black shirt and a silver necklace around his neck"Yeah, you could say that. Hailey" I said stretching my hand to shake his, he shook mine smiling, "Hector, you're from around here?" He asked.
I shook my head, "No, not really"
I stared at Dominic not taking my eyes off of him he looked enigmatic to me something about him was intriguing and interesting begging me to shed those layers to see what's really behind those deep brown eyes, "That's Dominic Toretto" Hector stated breaking the eye contact I had with Dom.
I turned to Hector listening intently to what he was going to say, "He's the best one out here, hard guy to defeat in a race, once behind those wheels he's a monster"
I raised my eyebrows at the compliment thrown at Dominic, "That good?"
Hector nodded enthusiastically, "I would've told you to see for yourself but he ain't racing tonight"
"Then who is?" I asked smirking showing him that I'm not some lost girl here for the eyes of men.
"Vince is up if you want to try your luck, he ain't bad" Hector shrugged.
I knew who Vince was but I had to act like I didn't know who he was to keep my cover intact, I faked frowning, "Who's Vince?"
He ushered with his head to where Vince was standing beside Dom, "That one"
I nodded, "I'm in," I said showing him the money.
"Let's see what you're made of new girl" He smiled going over to Vince pointing at me, he looked so smug smirking he nodded at me, I shook my head this guy got a whole lot of egoistic thing going on, I rode my car to the start line, excitement coursing through me at the familiar rush.
Vince smirked at me, "You know you can save the ten grand, we could do something much more" he gave me a look that said it all staring at my boobs for a few seconds, "Fun" he continued.
I scoffed in my head at the typical man in front of me, "We racing or not?" I said sweetly hiding my annoyance.
He smiled getting excited, "Of course"
As the girl signaled for us to go, I changed the gears almost immediately me and the car working as one at the same time it had been a long time for me since I raced, I know all about this world I think that's why they picked me for this job.
I pushed these thoughts away focusing on my driving, Vince was the one in the lead before we approached a turn I used this as a way to rush past him, I looked in my mirror to see him cursing, I smiled at my little victory but not letting it get to my head as the race was far from over.
I pushed the gears, we were now growing closer to the finish line Vince pushed his NOS zooming past me before I smirked as his car started to slow down I pushed my own zooming past him to the finish line.
This time I grinned happily that I got this race, Hector came running to me with a group of men and women cheering as they surrounded me, I got out of my car "Oh you're something else, Hails"
I smirked looking at him, "You underestimated me"
Vince approached me with the money looking slightly embarrassed but he hid it well, "Your money" he handed me the ten grand as I nodded in appreciation at him, "No hard feelings, right?"
He nodded leaving, I looked behind him to see Dominic staring at me with what looked like awe or something else I couldn't quite put my finger on but I shrugged it off turning to my car and riding home.
The next day I rode my motorcycle to the Toretto grill I parked in front of the diner and walked in, Mia was leaning on the counter reading a car's magazine, she looked at me raising her eyebrows, "Hi" I said smiling greeting the woman.
"Hey, I know you. You're the girl from yesterday the one who defeated Vince. Hailey, right?" She said staring at me.
I nodded smiling praising myself that my plan to subtly introduce myself into the world of Dominic Toretto is working, "Yeah, Hailey Campell and you?"
"Mia Toretto" She shrugged with a smile on her face, she looked nice to me, "It's the first time I see you here"
"Yeah I'm not really from around here, moved in recently, I work for Harry"
"Yeah Harry is a good one" she paused for a second, "I'm sorry. I didn't even give you a menu," she said embarrassed.
I shrugged her off, "It's okay, girl. How's the tuna in here?"
"To be completely honest with you. It's really shitty" She said grinning.
I smiled, "I think I'll take it then"
She started preparing my sandwich as I looked behind her to see the man of the police interest focusing on some papers, he looked differently up close, more handsome and mysterious, he raised his head suddenly catching my eyes, we made eye contact for a little while until the sound of the engines of cars broke it off.
The sound of the rest of Dominic's family was loud as they were teasing each other through their way to the grill, "Look who's here, Vince. The girl that beat you" Jesse said I didn't turn my head as Mia put the sandwich in front of me, "Here"
Brian walked around the counter kissing Mia's cheek confirming my suspicion of them dating, I thanked her as I start munching on the sandwich I felt someone slide in beside me on the stool, "You're good"
I frowned at him putting my sandwich down, "What do you mean?"
"The other night, not a lot of people can beat me the way you did, sure it was just beginners luck"
"Beginners luck? I was just showing you my definition of fun plus I thought there wasn't gonna be any hard feelings" I smirked at him.
He snickered, "Yeah right. You know my invitation still stands. My fun is much more different than yours"
"I prefer mine," I said as I finished my sandwich, putting some money for Mia, "Thanks Mia"
I looked at Dom one more time to find him staring at me, I smirked swaying my hips on the way out of the grill knowing fully well that he's watching.
