I made my way down the street, walking to the train station close by. It had been raining all morning so the small umbrella I had in my bag for emergencies was making itself useful.

I stood on the train platform as I waited for mine to arrive. It was fairly early in the morning and wasn't too busy so I prayed I'd get a seat on the train. It came soon after and to my luck there were a few open seats. I sat down, putting my bag on my lap as I put my earphones in. The sound of Stevie Nicks played softly in my ears as I watched the scenery go by.

I walked into the doors of the school and was greeted by a woman who called out my name.

"Yes?" I asked.

She held out her hand for me to shake, "Shelby Huntington, I'm the assistant principal."

I smiled and shook her hand, "(y/n) (y/l/n).

"If you follow me, we will get you started." She said as I followed her to the head office.

She brought me into a room and told me that the headmaster would be right with me. I looked around, my bag slung over one shoulder as I waited. Suddenly the door opened and a man came in.

"You must be Ms. (y/l/n)" he held out his hand.

"Yes sir" I replied.

"Call me Martin, please take a seat" he gestured as he sat behind his desk.

"So, we are very excited to have you aboard our team here" he smiled at me.

"I'm very excited as well" I replied, placing my bag down on the floor.

"Now you'll be teaching year 2, is that correct?" He asked as he looked through a file.

"Yes" I replied.

"Now, we are aware that you're fairly new, you graduated from university 2 years ago?" He asked, adjusting his glasses.

"Yes" I said, straightening myself up.

"Well we all must start somewhere" he said as he looked at me with a grin. "The reason I bring it up is because if you have questions or need any assistance, don't be afraid to ask. We have full faith in your abilities but want to make sure you and the children are well supported."

I nodded, "well thank you, i very much appreciate it."

He closed the file and got up from his chair. I followed his action and we both walked out to the secretary at the front desk.

"This is Amy, she's our head secretary." He smiled as he introduced us.

We then made our way around the school and he introduced me to different people, then finally, showed me my classroom. It was quaint and just big enough to hold a class of 30. The walls were white and the desks were scattered around the room. My desk sat at the front of the class as a chalk board hung on the wall to it's left.

My gaze was then interrupted as the assistant principal came into the room.

"I apologize for the interruption but Mr. Barker, you're needed in the head office." She said as she looked at us.

"Of course, excuse me." he said as they both left and I was left alone in my new classroom.

I arrived back home later that day and sighed as I took my coat off, hanging it up in the closet. I had gotten my years plan and was eager to start looking over the material of the several courses i'd be teaching. I put my bag down on my bed before making my way upstairs to make myself dinner. My stomach had been grumbling the whole way home and I was absolutely ravenous. I got out some of my soup from the cupboard and started to make it on the stove. I pulled out my phone from my back pocket and looked at my notifications.

A call from Mum.
2 texts from Mum.
A text from Danielle.

I poured my soup in a bowl and sat down at the table and decided to give my mum a call. She picked up after the second ring and her excited voice came through the speaker.

"Hi mum." I said, a smile coming to my face.

"Oh darling, how are you?" She asked happily.

"I'm good" I said as I took a sip of my soup.

"How was it today?" She asked.

"It went well, everything seems lovely."

"Oh I'm so glad! We miss you!"

"I miss you too" I said as I played with my spoon, "but I'm only a hour train ride away."

"I know" she said, her voice becoming low. "Oh! Honey, (y/n)'s on the phone" my mom exclaimed before my dads voice came through the speaker as well.

"Hey bug!" My dad said. "How's London treating you?"

"It's been good" I said, holding the phone in between my shoulder and cheek as I washed out my now empty bowl and put it back in the cupboard.

"Alright, well we'll let you go" my mom said in a low tone.

"Alright, mum. I'll call you again soon." I said in a reassuring tone.

"Please do. We love you!"

"Love you too!" I said before hanging up.

I turned around and was startled to see Sherlock standing in the kitchen.

"Oh my gosh" I said under my breath.

"Did I startle you?" He asked.

"Yes" I said as I grabbed a glass and filled it with water.

"Who was on the phone?" He asked, not moving from the spot.

"My parents" I said as I turned around and leaned against the counter.

He nodded.

"Well, I'm going to go downstairs. Good talk..." I said as I started walking away.

"Why does your dad call you bug?" Sherlock asked out of nowhere.

I stopped in my tracks and looked over at him.

"It's a nickname." I replied.

"Yes but what is its importance? Nicknames are usually referencing to something of importance..." he said, looking me in the eyes.

"Um, well, ever since I was young I've loved to read, started reading at 3 actually. I got called a book worm a lot and the nickname 'worm' never stuck so he changed it to bug and he's called me it ever since." I explained.

Sherlock just looked at me with a dead pan expression.

I shrugged, "not really that exciting."

He nodded and made a sound of agreement.

"Well, good night Sherlock." I said before making my way back downstairs with my glass of water.

Hi. I'm so sorry if the primary school stuff is a little odd... I'm from Canada so don't know how school really works in England but if you have any insight, don't be afraid to let me know :)
