Zachariah woke up startled by the knock on the door. He stood up, tired, blinking rapidly, not remembering exactly the moment he fell asleep.
He dragged himself all the way to the door to open it, only to find his 10 years old sister Myriam there, standing. Pale, fragile, her beautiful dark features faded by the state that she was in.
Noticing his sibling's agitation, he brought her closer to him, cuddling her up, offering her his brotherly warmth.
"what's wrong" he asked, genuinely concerned while hugging her tightly.
"i heard a noise of a metal hitting the ground repeatedly, the sound was coming from my roof. I'm really scared Zach" she answered, looking up at him.
"probably the wind, you should've gotten used to this by now, or is it mommy and daddy's absence that is making you all needy on me?" zach smiled while nudging her and tickling her playfully.
She let out a heartfelt laugh, while desperately trying to get herself out of her big brother's grasp.
