Suddenly the doorbell rang, announcing a visitor.......

"what the hell! Who comes at this time of day" questioned Zachariah sending his sister a perplexed look. Myriam shrugged her shoulders as if not knowing, seemingly confused as he was.

"i'll go check, you remain here" said Zach while getting up from the bed and heading towards the door.

"WHAT... so you're just going to go and leave me here, all alone?" her shock was visible and worry spread across her face.

Gripping the door knob, letting out an irritated sigh, he replied : "it's not like someone's going to come and take you off that bed without me noticing, so sit back, grab my phone there and play some game before i come back, it won't take long, it's probably some vagrant."

He got out of the room under the angry gaze of Myriam and took the stairs at his right, to the first floor that lead directly to the large front door.

Opening it, no one seemed to be around. Nonetheless he remained glued to the ground as he faced the nothingness of the night, the only sound heard is the crunching of fallen leaves getting hit by the wind, and the buzzing made by the male crickets, calling for their mates. "The wonders of nature" Zach thought to himself, smiling, as he welcomed the cold, fresh breeze of air that hit his face.

"i told you it was some vagrant!" he yelled across the hallway for Myriam to hear, as he closed the door behind him.

"Okay!". Hearing her response, he went straight to the kitchen in order to grab some warm milk before bed, a habit that he picked up from his beloved grandpa. As soon as the thought of him crossed his mind, a breach of memories opened up....

**********flashback*********
*One year ago*

"This will put you to sleep like a baby" Ryan smiled at him, while pouring some warm milk into a cup of glass.
They were sitting at the kitchen table, in Ryan's house. Ryan had to endure his grandson's lamenting for half an hour non-stop about the insomnia that he was suffering from. Having enough of that, he dragged him to the kitchen, determined to show him the old magical remedy.

"Well, new scientific articles has shown that this is just some load of crap, an old myth that some desert hobo invented and you old people chose to believe." said Zach, looking at the glass of milk with almost a pure disgust, untill a firm hand came slapping the back of his head.
He looked up at his grandfather with an amused surprise as a he stifled a laugh.

"Language young boy" Ryan gave him a severe look in an attempt to hold his own amusement.
"keep your modern science to yourself, this is proved to have an efficient and an immediate effect throughout generations, in the time being i refuse listening to a millennial lecturing me about such matters. Now drink up pretty boy.... cheers! " he finished smirking, holding up his glass of milk, soon to be empty.

Zachariah laughing, brought his full glass to his mouth, savoring the warmth of the liquid.

If he knew what the future held, he would not have hesitated to also savour that moment.

*********end of the flashback********

Wiping a tear that had managed to escape his eyes, he poured the warm milk into the cup and headed back to his room.

Opening the door, he let the glass fall from his hands, meeting the cold surface of the ground, shattering into pieces as he came across a horrifying scene.
