Stand of trees embraced him, welcomed him to stay in their shelter. He camouflaged himself among the trees like a chameleon, waiting for the right moment to lay eyes on a prey. He found the perfect one, the only thing left was to catch it and chew it. As he catched a glimpse of his first victim of the night, his rusty neurons started to function, he tried digging deeper into his grey-cells to scheme his way into the house. That's when he saw it!! There, a large hole plastered on a french window that opened to the living room.
"Ah even god try make this easy" he thought cheerfully, struggling to form a phrase, the words were soon lost among his jumbled up thoughts. Excitement took over him as the levels of dopamine spiked up in his entire body.
His worn out shoes clicked on the pavement of the street, as he made his way to the broken window. He brought his shaky hand inside the opening and tried to find the handle despite the obscurity that surrounded him. Getting a hold of it, he smirked deviously, mentally cheering himself and swung the window fully open.
The living room was immersed completely in the dark. Only a muted silver of light that was coming from the hallway, peeked through the cracks of the door. He sloppily walked towards it, trying not to stumble on things or make a sound on his way. Finally reaching the door, he opened it. Soon, the light came blinding him and he quickly covered his eyes with the back of his hand to protect them from the brightness while he was trying to adapt to it by squeezing his eyes. When the blur faded, he stood there gazing at the familiar yet -not so familiar- piece of the house.
The hallway was grandiose but not pretentious; a simple chandelier hanged loosely on the saggy roof, providing a source of illumination to the whole piece. The old walls were stripped away from their painting, like a bright makeup flaking off an old hag. Only a bunch of small ornaments decorated a few shelves that were hanged, bringing some colors to the lifeless walls.
There he stood while trying hard to concentrate on finding his prey, the one he saw on the rooftop earlier. However, the voices in his head were screeching loudly as they usually did, diverting his attention, so he could never focus on his task. He hated those evil voices.
"STOP!" he growled clenching his teeth together, as he brought both hands to his head, to try and stop the voices from damaging his brain. In a state of haziness he lost track of what he wanted to do, so instead of going to the rooftop and accomplish what he came for, his feet dragged him to the right and went straight for the brown door under the staircase, the storage room. He opened the door and pulled the chain of the bare bulb to illuminate the dark place.
The room was neatly organized; shelves were put in rows, storing a variety of objects. He walked further into the room, and roamed around examining the shelves as he went. Soon, he found himself bored as nothing seemed to pique his interest, so he turned on his heel, deciding to walk away and calm the voices that continued screeching in his ear. As he stepped out of the door, he saw something from the corner of his eyes, a box neglected alone in a corner. Suddenly, the voices started to lower down, quietness fell into place and everything became clearer again. Curiosity got the better of him, somehow that box lured him and he couldn't explain why? So he followed his instincts and went to examine the thing.
He kneeled in front of the desired object, and started rummaging through it. Old Keys, chains, different wrenches, cutters, screwdrivers, metal bar, hamm.......... WAIT. His brain stopped processing for a second. Metal bar!
Something clicked, and in that moment he remembered why he came to this house in the first place.
