Reader x Roman Narrative
Y/N Clayton. You were caught up in a web of lies and blamed for something you didn't even do. You wished to have a second chance, a clean slate to show everyone that the labels forced upon you did not reflect who you were. You'd do anything. Tonight was your chance. Every year Prince Roman and the Fulton family hosts the kingdom dance and this year you're determined to go. Everyone who was someone would be there, including all the royalty from the other kingdoms.
I shouldn't be here. You can't override that this is wrong. Sure, you've hidden well and you know no one will recognise you but the thought of what would happen if anyone does is scratching persistently at the back of your mind. Calming yourself with a deep breath, you begin to strut into the palace, your high heels clicking gently on the polished white marble floor. The party is already bustling with excitement and it is only just getting started.
You feel many eyes upon you and you can't help but smirk at their awe. You keep your calm and confident composure, ignoring the nervousness nagging at you. You can't help but stop to admire the palace in all its beauty. The light from the magnificent golden chandeliers makes the marble floor sparkle. The walls are adorned with delicate red and gold tapestry. Dark oat tables are lavished with exotic dishes and drinks and guests flock to the polished dance floor.
You recognise many esteemed guests among the crowd. Prince Logan of the Gladstone family and his boyfriend Prince Patton Chester, Prince Virgil of the Blackwood family and many other nobles stroll around the main hall but Prince Roman is nowhere in sight. You make your way over to one of the glamorous tables, fetching yourself a glass of champagne. You take a long sip and the bubbles slip down your throat rendering you slightly giddy.
You stride around the palace nursing your champagne and looking for someone to have a good time with among all of the ruckus. A few men and women approach you but none of them really catch your attention so you politely decline. They all understand and discretely venture elsewhere, leaving you alone to explore. You stop to admire a portrait of Prince Roman when you when a voice sounds behind you. "Well hello."
Shocked, you jump and in the process, you are able to spill the remaining contents of your glass all over the mysterious individual behind you. You spin around and begin to apologise repeatedly. Suddenly it dawns on you and you glance up to come face to face with none other than Prince Roman. Whoops. You take a hurried step back, brushing of your outfit and bowing to the Prince. He brushes you off with a grin and you blurt, "I am so sorry Prince Roman!"
"Don't worry my dear, it's merely a stain. I have many more outfits." He soothes, using his hand to tip your chin up to face him. You can't help but blush and stand up straight, nodding and shifting your weight uneasily. "There is one thing you could do for me though." Prince Roman continues, his eyes glancing over your lips hungrily, "Accompany me for the rest of the night." Your eyes grow wide at his words and your mouth drops open.
"Me Your Majesty?" You stutter, trying to fathom what just came out of the Prince's mouth. "Of course," He laughs, a wide grin forming on his face, "And there's no need for such formalities with me. Call me Roman darling." Your mouth gives way to a coy smile and a bright red blush rushes up your cheeks. "So what do you say?" Roman questions, a hint of nervousness in his voice, "I'd be honoured Roman."
An amazing smile slides across his face and you can't help but giggle at his cuteness. "Oh, how rude of me! I never asked your name!" He scolds himself, looking expectantly at you. "Y/N." You blurt without thinking. Shit. "Lovely name for a lovely person." Roman chirps and you sigh in relief. That was close. "You shouldn't jump to conclusions like that." You caution, rubbing the back of your neck.
Roman's smile falters slightly and he gives you a confused look before his smile returns and he links an arm through yours and leads you down the hallway. "Where are we going?" You question, holding onto Roman's arm, "Well I can't greet the guests like this?" He chuckles and you realise there is quite a lard stain adorning his outfit. "That would be hilarious." You smirk, trying to bite back a laugh and see Roman smiling. God, that smile.
