The snow crunched under my boots and I left footprints in the snow as I ran. Zoe was in front of me, and Harper even farther. They ran so fast, I could barely keep up with them. My breaths came out in clouds as I panted harshly. My lungs burned and my legs ached.
"Wait!" I reached the doors and climbed the steps to the bus; sliding my metro card into the slot.
"Took you long enough." Harper said from the back of the bus.
"It's freezing. Give her a break." Zoe defended.
"What she said." I pointed to Zoe; feeling out of breath. I slumped down into a chair and loosened the fluffy scarf around my neck. It was zebra print; my favorite! Out of habit my brown eyes scanned my surroundings to see who else was in the bus.
My eyes locked with the boy sitting across from me. He had short black hair and piercing green eyes. I blushed and looked away from him. Zoe and Harper were talking about going to a cafe before going home.
"I can't go today guys. I have to study for that history test tomorrow." I told them. Remembering dates was always a problem for me. I snuck a glance at the boy who looked away from me. He was staring at me!
"Hey guys."
"What is it?" asked Zoe.
"He's cute." I whispered to her.
"Who?"
"Who do you think?"
"Oh, I guess he is." she said with a smile.
"Soneone has a crush." Harper teased.
"I do not!" I argued; pushing her gently. I blush furiously as my friends laugh. The boy huffs slightly and wipes the condensation off the window so he could look out of it. I sighed and turned my body in my chair.
My window was fogged up because of the warm interior of the bus as well. I used my glove clad fingers to write my name against the window, drawing a heart next to it. I was bored now. And I couldn't just stare at this guy the whole time. It was easy to loose track of where I was even though I was looking outside.
"Riley." Harper nudged me.
"Huh?"
"This is our stop." Zoe announced.
"Okay." I responded; swinging my bag over my shoulders and tucking the mass of red waves on my head into my hat. I got up as the bus stopped and left the bus.
