Nice Guy

He sat at his desk, pouring over notes and plans. A puppy sat at his bare feet, a grey cat curled in his lap. He glanced absently out the open window, the sky colored orange and red in the last few minutes of daylight. The sounds of children playing without care wafted in from the window. He glanced down at the plans in front of him. He absentmindedly brushed the puppy's back with one bare foot while also stroking the cat with his free hand. The otherwise spartan office was decorated with oil paintings, one to a wall. "Sir?" The plump aged lady inquired as she poked her head into the office "Your dinner, sir". He motioned her forward with his writing hand, still petting the cat in his lap. She set the plate of vegetables down on his desk, careful to avoid any paperwork. He stuck a fork into a Brussels sprout and brought it up to his nose. "Of course not!" The cheerfully plump lady exclaimed, once again reigniting the nightly ritual which had begun between the two decades before. "No meat, not even in the simmering, Sir". The man smiled at her knowing she felt as much a kinship with animals as he had. No animal would ever come to harm if he could help it. He went back to studying his paperwork. Maps, graphs and spreadsheets sprawled before him. He picked at his vegetables and fruits while stroking his cat and petting his dog. Solutions for his nations problems one through eight hadn't yielded any positive results. The entire countries wealth resided within 1% of it's people, and he couldn't stand to see the children and animals go hungry any longer. He signed his name to what he hoped would be the last solution to his nations problems. He hoped this one would finally work. With a flourish near the end, he put a big loop on the"R"
Dolph went back to eating his veggies, rubbing his puppy on the back and petting his cat, content in the knowledge that he was a good person and he was doing a good thing.
