"Adi, I'm hungry" the heavyset man spoke into the air "Veggie plus sandwich Paul?" The soothing female voice asked. " Yes, red drink soyfries" he added. He went back to watching his wall, typical drivel about a gay hillbilly getting rich by having a carbon sink on his useless property and moving his woke daughter, racist mother in law and mixed race nephew to the big city. "There's nothing new under the sun" Jed said on the wall followed by a laugh track repurposed from the 1960s. A corner of Paul's wall flashed and showed a picture stream of his door, with a drone depositing a plastic box with a hook and picking up another similar box that had been left out on the landing for return. Twelve returns in a week and he gets a free order of soyfries. He was three orders away. It was a Tuesday.
"It's almost time for work Paul, do you want me to play music?" the pleasant disembodied voice asked. " Sure Adi, play rocksong number five". Rocksong number five filled the room. It was virtually an exact word for word, note for note copy of a song that had been popular back in the days of radio, before the streams became the only source of entertainment. And the only way to get on the streams as a musician was to emulate past songs perfectly. The video streams have similar rules in place but allow for deviations from the original movies and shows in order to fulfill government requirements for diversity and promotion of wokeness.
Paul tapped his toes to the music as he took bites from his veggie plus. "Adi, westream on wall" he said between bites. "On wall Paul" Adi replied." Shall I log you into your employee account?". Paul didn't answer, but mumbled through another bite and nodded his head affirmative. "Logged in". Paul could now see every westream, even those set to private and groups he didn't belong to. Westream was the culmination and integration of every social media platform on the planet. The government mandated that every human be registered on westream at birth. Without a westream account in good standing a person couldn't receive their basic universal income,go to school, receive an apartment, vote or receive medical attention.
Everyone has a westream account and everyone uses it. How else would everyone else know how unique an individual is? How would the government know exactly what each person wants without the stream?
