Willow’s POV

I decided that I would walk to school today instead of getting driven around like I normally do. It was a cold wintery morning and I could see my breath fog out in front of me, I wore a pink scarf and my normal uniform. Today I had my hair up in a ponytail with my bangs loose; I really hoped that Ali would complement me even though it was nothing special. I giggled giddily to myself when I thought of her nickname, the nickname that I had given her.

I dunno why, but there was just something about her that made me go weak at the knees for her, maybe it was her whole ‘Don’t mess with me’ attitude that attracted me to her. No, I knew why I was attracted to her, it’s because she’s strong and can stand up for herself, she’s outgoing and pretty too. To be honest, I was jealous of her. It took all of my courage just to give her my cell phone number.

I looked at my watch on my phone and saw that I had half an hour to spare, I could either go to school early and wait for Ali or go to the park that was close by and sit there for a while. I decided on the latter.

I turned down the next street on my right and walked slowly to the park, I stopped when I saw a small kitten with an overall chocolate brown body with a white face and paws. I couldn’t help but bend down and pick it up. I squeezed its paws gently and smiled widely when I heard its tiny mewls.

It was so adorable that I was considering carrying it to school with me, but I knew that I couldn’t as the school didn’t allow pets of any breed. I sighed and looked down into the cats bright green eyes, I felt as if it was begging me to take it and give it a home but I didn’t know if my parents would approve. I stared at the kitten a little longer and couldn’t help but to give in, so I got out my phone and called up mum.

“Hello?” My mum answered, the kitten that was cradled in my arms mewled and waved its paws around in the air that I couldn’t help but to go “awe, you’re so cute” at it.

“Um, hey mum. I was wondering if we could keep this kitten I found, it is so cute, and it doesn’t look like anyone owns it, it’s skinny and doesn’t have a collar on, please mum” I begged, inside hoping that she would say yes.

“I’ll think about it, where did you find it?” She asks me and I almost cry because I can’t bear the thought of leaving it alone.

“Well… I was hoping that you would come and take it home now, I don’t want to leave it alone” I tried to persuade my mum into coming now.

*Sigh* “Alright, where are you?” Mum asks me, reluctance obvious in her tone.

“Um… I’m at” I looked at the street sign that I was closest too and read it out loud so that my mum could hear. “West street, okay got it, I’ll be there in 10 minutes, see you then”

“Bye mum, thank you so much!” I told her before she hung up on me.

Now all that I could do was to sit and wait while adoring the kitten that I was holding. I took a picture of it being cradled on my arm with its paws bent in a begging pose and its cute little eyes staring at me with my phone. I couldn’t wait to show Ali, to see her facial expression soften at its cuteness and to hear her go “naww it’s so adorable” in a childish voice. I laughed at the thought of Ali doing such a thing; she was too bad ass to do anything like that.

After waiting a good seven minutes, my mum pulled up beside me and stopped the engine. She got out and gave me a look, one filled with curiosity and annoyance. “Willow, why did you go this way to go to school?” She asked me with her arms crossed, I didn’t like the pressuring look that she gave me and I didn’t know how she would react if I told her the truth, but since I didn’t have anything else I had no choice but to tell her.
