➸"And to think, I thought you were calling to check up on me."
"Yes, well, I haven't."
"No, really," he gasps dramatically. "I couldn't tell."
"Okay, listen here, smartass, I do not have the time to deal with you and your attitude right now."
"Maybe you should have thought about that before calling me and not even asking how I've been. How everyone's been."
"Alright, I do apologize. I'm just dealing with a lot right now. How are you?"
"I'm great, thanks for asking," he exclaims sarcastically.
"I will bite you."
"You can try."
➸
Lizzie walks inside her and Jenna's new home with a huff. She marches to the kitchen and yanks a blood bag out of the fridge. Opening it swiftly, she chugs the whole thing before grabbing another.
"Woah. What happened?"
Lizzie, with her back still turned, pauses from drinking out of her fourth bag and slightly lifts up her head. "I don't know what you're talking about."
Jenna sighs and slowly walks towards her best friend, a bowl of strawberries in her hands. "You've been drinking O+ for the past five minutes."
"And?"
"You never drink out of a bag unless you're worried about something."
Lizzie stops drinking to stare at the six empty blood bags in front of her. Slowly setting down the seventh bag, she turns around. "I'm not worried about anything."
"You're lying."
It's silent for a moment before Lizzie sighs dramatically and throws her hands into the air. "I called him."
A sound of glass breaking echoes throughout the house as Jenna drops her bowl of fruit.
➸
"What do you mean you called him," Jenna exclaims, closely following Lizzie as she tries to escape her best friends glare.
"I mean I called him! What else does 'I called him' mean?!"
"Oh, do not give me attitude, young lady! Yo-"
"I'm older than you!"
"Shut up!" They glare at each other before Jenna starts to speak again. "I thought we agreed that we wouldn't contact them until we knew we were safe."
"We are safe, Jen."
"And how would you know that?!"
"Because they told me," Lizzie yells, breathing hard. Jenna stares at her with a surprised face. She opens her mouth to speak, but closes it back after nothing escapes. After a few seconds, she recovers.
"When?"
Lizzie huffs. "A few hours ago."
"And you didn't call to tell me," Jenna questions, throwing her arms out.
"I didn't have time. As soon as they told me, I called him. I had to ask for a favor. And then I got so caught up in my own thoughts, that I wasn't even thinking of telling you. I'm sorry."
"It's-It's okay," she sighs. "I understand you must have a lot going on right now, but you need to start telling me things when they happen. Not have me worried for hours about why you haven't returned yet."
"About that...," she drawls. "I was kinda busy with something."
Jenna looks into her eyes before laughing. "Something? Don't you mean someone?"
"What?! How did you know?!"
"You got that glow that you always get when you feel like you accomplished something."
"I do not!"
"Let me guess. She's never had sex with a girl, huh?"
Lizzie stares at her before pointing her finger. "Oh, you're good."
