Life's been a rodeo for Cassie Kimes, Especially ever since she got involved with cowboys, Cody Cooper and Derik Wright. Will her past history of abuse come back to haunt her or will she finally escape it all?
Okay so there are definitely sparks between Cody Cooper and I but it could never happen, he's way to close with Ty and Wes, I could never go out with one of my brother's friends. And regardless I'm in love with Derik. I don't know why my heart flutters at the sound of Cody's voice, I really don't, but I can't catch feelings for him, at least while I'm with Derik. And as of now I don't see Derik and I splitting up for a while.
As I thought of a sarcastic answer to give to Cody, Derik came up from behind and hugged me. "Hey" I said as he kissed my cheek. My cheeks turned cherry red because Cody was watching. I broke the sudden awkwardness by introducing Derik to Cody. "This is Ty and Wes's friend, Cody." "Hey how are ya" Derik said shaking Codys hand. "good luck tonight" Cody said to Derik, "the same to you" Cody responded. Soon we all parted and went our own ways. Me and Derik headed towards the trailer to get dressed and Cody went to his to do the same.

This was my outfit.
As I finished up curling my hair, Derik came in the bathroom. Of course he wasn't dressed yet, [he's the worlds worst procrastinator😂] He just stood leaned up against the door, watching. As I finished the last strand of hair, I set the curling iron down and turned around. He smiled, rubbed his chin and looked down, almost as if he was embarrassed that I caught him staring. I chuckled, he looked back up and said "you're so beautiful, how did I get so lucky?" I stepped forward and kissed him. "I love you." I whispered in his ear as I stepped away.
30 minutes until the event starts: Derik finally got dressed. He wore a black cowboy hat and black accessories. [Black looks sooo good on him let me just add!] Cody was the farthest thing from my mind at this moment.
I always say a little prayer by myself before Derik rides. I pray for a safe, clean ride.
As it got closer and closer to starting time, Derik got more and more nervous. He always did this before a ride. When Derik got nervous he couldn't stay still so he just walked laps. I saw Wes and Ty and went over to talk to them. "Hey, y'all ready" I said, sitting down by Ty. "Super" Wes responded sarcastically, I just rolled my eyes.
Right now Wes and Ty were the #1 team ropers in the state. They mostly do little circuits for fun and for practice, they're excited that they can possibly compete at the nfr this year.
6pm (starting time): Per usual the whole arena prayed for all the competitors and the National Anthem was sung, the woman singing had an amazing voice. This rodeo was a mix of all events so it would be a longer one. I went to the bar and got a drink. Then I found a seat in the bleachers.
Team Roping: The crowd roared for the 1st event, team roping. Wes and Ty were the 3rd team to go out. The calf was released from the chute, then the boys were released. Wes (the header) roped the horns of the calf and set it up for Ty (the heeler) to be able to rope the back legs. They ended up winning the event with the fastest time.
Bull dogging: Cody waited in the holding pen, the crowd went crazy for the famous rodeo star. I sat on the edge of my seat. The timer started and the chute was open, Cody chased after the steer on the horse, jumped off, grabbed the steers horns and throwing it off balance causing it to fall to the ground, Cody tied the feet off and then timer stopped. This definitely wasn't his best run, Cody placed 4th in this event.
Bull riding: Finally, it was Derik's event. He was the last rider of the night.
The rodeo was almost over and Deriks turn was coming up. He was in the chute, getting ready for his ride, preparing himself and the bull. I bit my nails and my heart raced. I always get nervous before he rides.
Just as the buzzer sounded, and the gate swung open, releasing the bull.
Lots of yelling came from behind the bleachers. Then 5 gunshots were fired. Then the bleachers cleared, everyone scattered. Derik fell off the bull and ran to the fence. The rodeo clowns and the chute help also all ran. Derik quickly hopped over, fear in his eyes. He was now on the same side of the fence as me.
I called 911
We ran towards the truck. Derik made sure I was safe the whole way there.
I couldn't find Ty, Wes or Cody, dear god I hope they're safe.
