R Y D E R
I walked in Mr. Watson's room and sat on a random chair, a looked at the whiteboard that had the dreaded word written with a black marker that was about to run out of ink, "Detention" with capital letters were what I read. I was here because I came late for two minutes during my second period, Mr. Trent, the teacher, gave me a two-hour detention, which was fair I guess. But I still think that this detention bullshit is well... Bullshit.
I open my phone and it was still in its gallery, a picture was shown, it was a selfie that me and Katie took a week ago, it was probably one of her last selfies before she had her demise. I went to my inbox and tapped on the most recent message I got, it was oddly from Katie's. I received this during my last period and it had me pretty freaked out. I read it again,
From: Katie
3:46 PM, Today
Hey there. I just want to let you know that I'm still alive ;)
xoxo
At first, I really didn't believe it, then I realized Katie would always put something like "xoxo" on every text she sends. This very text made me grew suspicions in my head, but it was real, Katie's still alive. But how?
"Afternoon, Maddox." I heard someone greet me, I look up to see Sydne Hudson, the school's Queen B, by B they mean Badass Bitch. She was clad in a pristine outfit and was holding her Louis-Vitton bag on her elbow, letting it hang as she looked at me blankly.
"Afternoon." I greet back.
"How's dealing with your best friend's death?" She asked. It's a fact that Katie and Sydney were friends; in fact, they were the best of friends before sophomore kicked in, but now, I guess they drifted apart and kind of hate each other now. Probably because Katie couldn't handle her bitchiness and gigantic IQ.
"Okay, I guess." I answered, she continued to sit beside me and place her bag on the table.
"Condolences and all, I hope she rests in peace." She said with a hint of regret, "But she deserved to die anyway,"
I gave her a look.
"I mean, she has done many great things, I just think it's time for her to rest permanently." She finished off with a small eye roll. She's the one to hold a grudge. Maybe she had something to do with Katie's death.
"Yeah." I mumbled.
"But she's still alive." She cooed.
"What?"
"Nothing."
The text must've been a group message. I mean how else could Sydney know about it.
"Yeah babe, I'll call you back." I heard a male voice enter the room, he was on his phone. I looked to see Jacob Abernathy, the school's bad boy, with devilish good looks and a sly personality, no wonder girls (and guys) fall for him. But as a bad boy, he's also a player, possibly breaking at least one heart everyday. One heart was Katie's, yes, they were a thing, until Jacob decided to, of course, break her heart by cheating on her. By now, they're not civil with each other, and maybe Jacob never really felt sorry about her death, and maybe he did something to do with it. I watch him as he goes to the back of the classroom and sit, kicking his feet to rest on the table. If detention was a home, he was a frequent visitor.
