Will's P.O.V
I can't believe he would do that! I told Brett how I felt about Nico, and now he was trying to get Nico to go on a date with him. At least Nico didn't seem to understand what Brett was trying to say. Nico can be so oblivious sometimes...
"Will? You finished?" Nico looked at me with wide eyes.
"Hmm? Oh, yeah." I replied, momentarily distracted by the small flecks of colour in his dark brown eyes.
Nico shifted awkwardly in his seat. "So, can we leave now?"
I snapped back into the conversation. "Yeah, so where are we going again?"
"We never ended up deciding..." Nico fiddled with his ring.
"In that case, want to check out the beach?"
Nico suddenly looked really uncomfortable. "I'd rather not." I felt a pang sound from somewhere deep in my chest. Did he change his mind about the walk? It did he just not want to spend time with me? I must have shown my uncertainty, because Nico began to ramble again.
"It's just not somewhere I'd like to go, you know? It's similar to why you don't want to go to the strawberry fields."
I smirked. "So, you mean you're allergic to water?"
Nico grew very red. "No! Of course not. I just don't like the water very much..." I decided not to push him.
"So, if we can't go to the beach or the strawberry fields, where should we go? We're running out of places in the camp boundary..."
Nico rubbed his chin for a minute while he thought. "I know! Let's go to the camp fire pit!"
"Why? There'll be nothing there until tomorrow night." I asked, confused.
"Exactly. There will be nobody to bother us." He explained with a grin. I felt my spirits ride just looking at the smile on his face. Who was I to say no to such a beautiful sight?
"Sounds good." I replied, as I rose from my seat. Nico quickly followed, and together we made our way across the pavilion, and out towards the camp fire pit. As we passed the threshold of the pavilion, we blinking, stepped into the sun. It was a gorgeous day; the sun shone brightly over everything, casting a warm light on the camp. I always felt at home when the sun was out, almost as if the sun was looking after me. I glanced over to Nico to see a scowl on his face. I guess he must dislike the sunlight, due to his heritage. Nico walked with his eyes glued to the ground, seeming to stare strut through the earth to the underworld. His shaggy hair ruffled slightly in the breeze, making him look a bit like a movie star walking down the red carpet. I let out a small chuckle at the thought. Immediately, Nico whipped his head up and a smile formed on his face. I glanced around trying to see what changed Nico's mood, but was met with nothing. It couldn't be my laugh, could it? I looked back to Nico, but he had already re-glued his gaze to the ground. However, his smile still hadn't transformed into a scowl, so I guess that was an improvement.
We reached the camp fire pit after a short walk. As we had guessed, there wasn't a soul in sight. The bleachers looked kinda sad when there wasn't anybody to fill them. Since it was Nico's idea to come here, I followed him until he chose where he wanted to sit. He had picked the top row of the bleachers the furthest from the entrance. I gave him a questioning look as we sat down, but he didn't seem to care to answer. At least, that's what I thought, until he pointed to a small section of the wooden bench. I leaned in and looked a little closer. There engraved in the wood, was the initials B.D.A. I looked back up to him, still confused.
"I put them there." Nico stated simply, still not raising his head.
"Why? What do they stand for?"
Nico finally looked at me, and I saw a few stray tears sliding down his cheeks. "I did it for Bianca. I figured that even if she couldn't be here physically anymore, she should still be a part of this camp." He began to wipe away the tears, but more began to form. He looked so miserable sitting there, trying furiously to hide his tears. I knew what had to be done. I grabbed his hand and put it back to his side before swiftly pulling him in for a hug. He froze at the contact, but then slowly began to wrap his arms around me, relaxing into the hug. The few tears had multiplied, and now he was full on crying, yet not quite sobbing. I ran my hand up and down his spine, trying to reassure him. After a few minutes, Nico had stopped crying, but he was still holding onto me, almost as if I would float away if he let go.
"Thank you. I think I needed that." Nico sniffled a few times, still trying to regain his composure.
"Anytime." I said, and I meant it. If he came to me at three in the morning in need of a hug, or anything really, I would be there for him. Nico seemed to understand the full extent of my answer, and clutched me a bit harder for a few seconds before releasing his grip and pulling out of the hug. Nico had red eyes, a dead giveaway for anyone to see he had been crying, so I decided it might be a good time to return to the infirmary. I slowly stood up, and laced my fingers with Nico's, before making my way off the bleachers. The whole way back, Nico kept his head down, avoiding the gazes of the other campers. But that didn't mean he let go of my hand. I felt a small stab of pride when Nico gripped my hand tighter as we passed by some campers. Nico was beginning to put some trust in me, and after everything that he's gone through, that means a lot.
