So that's when I decided I'd be running for president as well. We all stumble off the bus and into the pouring rain. McKenna making herself look so helpless as she walked into the school using her crutches.
I find I formulate my best plans when I am not trying. So I sit through the whole day waiting for a brilliant idea. What would my campaign be? I couldn't actually win, could I?
At lunch I told Liberty about what I wanted to do and she said she'd make the poster for me.
"When?" I ask.
"Right now." She says as she pulls her Nikon camera from her bag. "If you want." I smile and nod. Within the next seven minutes Liberty and I are in the printer room, printing my campaign posters.
"Like it?" She asks, holding up a yellow poster that says 'Vote smart;Vote Avory' and I picture of me. I noticed with a pang that I didn't have my glasses on. Like I said, my family didn't have alot of money so I wouldn't be getting another pair of glasses for the next couple of months. The only reason Dad got my sister and I iphones was because the company he works for sponsors Apple so he got a huge discount.
"Love it! How many copies did you make?" I say as I stare at the poster. "Seventy...or so." She says, pride in her voice.
"Good. Let's go hang them up." I say and grab the entire stack of posters. I walked down the 12th grade hallway and started hanging posters, that is, until McKenna came along.
"Trying to out shine me hu, Krest?" She said, rolling and apple around on her palm. A big smirk on her face. "And even more than that, you think you can win?"
Liberty opened her mouth to say something, but, I slapped my hand right over her mouth. As much as I appreciate Liberty's efforts, she is just going to make me look weak standing up for me all the time. I turned and smiled wickedly at McKenna. "There is always a possibility." I say. When McKenna lifts her eyebrows in confusion I add, "For me to win. There is always that chance."
"Likely." McKenna snorts. Had she still been 'popular' she would have done that weird noddle neck thing, but I think she was trying to prove to people she really could be a nerd. If she really wanted to.
McKenna and I just glare at each other for a while until Liberty urges me to continue hanging posters in different hallways. "Whatever." I say, to no one in particular as Liberty shoves me off down the hall.
"Why do you always have to make a sceen when your around her?" Liberty asks angrily.
"Whoa, what's your problem, Libbs?" I ask.
"My problem? My problem is that you totally embarrassed, not just you, but me too whenever you two fight! Plus I don't want you to get in trouble, and you will eventually if you don't cut it out!"
"Affirmative!" I joke. It was just do hard to take my best friend seriously whan she was mad. Her face turned this weird shade of red and her lips turned purple from her pressing them together. A giggle escaped my lips.
"It's not freaking funny, Avory! I am serious!" She hissed. "One day you will get in trouble because you didn't listen when I told you to stop!" She stomps her foot on the ground, her thin black pony tail swished behind her as she did so. Her denim blue eyes ablaze with anger.
"Look I am sorry-"
"No! I think it's a little to late for an apology. Let's just admit that the only reason your now running for school president is so you can 'best' McKenna Tylers at something...anything! So long as you win!" She vents for many more minutes until she looks embarrassed from saying so much and storms off.
