“I know I haven’t always been the husband I was supposed to. I promise you, I won’t let that happen again.” Steele said, putting his glass down on the table. His clear blue eyes were soft and honest.

We were sitting at the table eating dinner. I had been made roast. One of my husbands favorite meals. I wanted to take a shot at being a better wife this time. The kind who always makes sure there is dinner on the table when her husband gets home, who keeps her home in pristine condition and who always looks her best.

“I haven’t exactly been perfect myself.” I said looking down at my plate.

“Oh!” he said jumping up from the table “I’ve got to go get something. I’ll be right back.”

He disappeared from the dining room. Leaving me curious. Moments later he returned carrying a bottle of red wine. The label looked old, meaning it was probably very expensive. Steele began to rummage through the buffet for a wine opener.

“I bought this when I was in Paris last year. I was saving it for our anniversary… but since that was while we were separated I still have it. And I think this is the perfect occasion to enjoy it.” he smiled, pouring me a glass.

“You’re wonderful.” I smiled, looking lovingly into his eyes.

He leaned down, placing a soft kiss on my lips then placed my glass in front of me and poured his own. He sat down back in his chair across from me.

“A toast. To us.” he held his glass up. “May we have many more years of happiness ahead of us.”

“To us.” I clinked my glass against his and then brought the glass of sweet earthy liquid to my lips.

Within an hour I was pouring the last of the bottle into my glass. Slightly tipsy, I was laughing and having a good time reminiscing on the old days with Steele.

“Do you remember the time when we cut class and took your daddy’s yacht out?” I asked giggling.

“We made it all the way down to Savanah before he figured out it was missing.” Steele smiled, swirling around the ice in the glass of scoth he had poured for himself.

“Oh to be young again.” I smiled.

“We could still have some crazy adventures if we wanted to.” he said thoughtfuly. “How about I buy you a boat?”

“Really?” my eyes lit up. There wasn’t much in life I enjoyed more than being out on the open ocean, wind in my hair and the warm sun tanning my skin.

“A big one.” he said raising his glass.

“I like this idea.” I got up from my seat and very ungracefully slid into his lap. Placing a kiss on his cheek. I was trying to be seductive, but with the amount of alcohol I had in my system was making me very sloppy and clumsy.

“Whatever makes you happy darling.” he kissed me.

The phone rang in the other room. Steele groaned and slid me off his lap so that he could answer it. While he was gone I rummaged through the liquor cabinent, finding some bourbon.
