The following day, Martha waited outside science lab 5 for Ollie to arrive. Ollie had biology last, and since Martha had chosen Spanish over Biology for her A-level options, she had a free period. She had spent it reading in the library and beaten her personal score of six books in an hour.
The Vampire Maze Trilogy by Phillipa Manchild
The Secret Garden by Francis Hodgeson Burnet
Peter Pan by J.M Barrie
Great Expectations by Charles DickensShe checked her watch again. The time was 15:32, two minutes after the day had ended.
"He's probably just picking up some extra homework from detention," she reasoned in her head. "Although we are currently doing a research project so it's not likely."She let the thought pass through her mind, as she saw him coming towards her.
"You're late," she pointed out.
"Sorry," Ollie apologised, "They were still cleaning the corridors in the science block so I had to go via route six instead."
Martha nodded. "Fair enough."
Ollie went and unlocked the door.
"Come on then," he hissed, holding it open for her. They walked in and closed the door behind them. This was the official test to see if they were still afraid of germs. Let the awkwardness and romance begin!
Ollie spread his arms out, and gestured for Martha to come forward. She did, and then it happened - they hugged for the first time! Well, not the first time. They did it accidentally after the "love machine" and "art room spaceship" incidents. It felt wonderful - her hands wrapped around his torso, their chests touching, caught in each other's embrace. When they eventually began to pull away, Martha leaned in. Ollie did the same, and then... Their lips touched!😘 Despite the kiss not being in science's favour, it was still quite... pleasant. The butterflies from three years ago returned, and their eyes closed. They meant to pull away after a few seconds, but just couldn't stop. It's like with magnets: the north and south poles attract each other. If they were going to be the gross kind of couple, they're glad it was with each other and no one else. Not Rufus, Alfie, Em or Kat.
Outside, two students were chatting to one another. They were none other than Cassie and Maxwell, the duo's infamous upgrades.
"Where were you at lunchtime?" She was asking, "I thought we had agreed to meet up in the library."
"Oh, I was helping Alfie find his PE bag," Maxwell replied. "Again," he added, as Cassie rolled her eyes.
"He'd probably forget his head if it wasn't attached to his neck," she remarked. Maxwell nodded in agreement.
"Did Jake suspect anything?" He inquired, changing the subject.
"I don't think so." Cassie shook her head. "I told him we were going to do our biology homework."
"You do know what that translates into, right?"
Cassie face palmed. "I knew I should've said physics!"
"It doesn't look like we'll be doing it alone either," Maxwell commented, looking through the door window.Ollie and Martha quickly stopped when they heard the door opening. They turned round to see Cassie and Maxwell approaching.
"A science lab WITH windows? That's your hideout spot?" Cassie questioned in a disapproving tone.
"It was the only one available," Ollie snapped back.
"Besides," Martha added, "Everywhere else is too crowded and public."
"Fair point," Cassie agreed. She and Maxwell sat down at a table.
"How come you two don't us, you know?" Martha asked, becoming suspicious. "Don't tell me you two are going out as well."
"Well, of course," Maxwell replied, "We just assumed you already knew. Sort of like an unspoken agreement."
"An unspoken agreement?" Ollie repeated, "But Martha and I have only been going out for three days!"
"Three days? Goodness, you're both incredibly forward in this respect!" Cassie exclaimed.
"It took Cassie and I three days to even hold hands," Maxwell chimed in.
"Huh." Martha raised an eyebrow.Just then, the clock above them rang four times, signalling that it was 4pm.
"I'd better go," Ollie said, "My mother said I should be back by 4:15."
"Mine too," Martha responded. They stood up and walked out of the science lab, shutting the door behind them. Martha stopped to take one last look at Cassie and Maxwell, who were busy kissing. She noticed Ollie looking too and smiled.
