A/N: this chapter has some fighting in, so yeah, you have been warned.
It was a cold Thursday morning. Jas liked to call it "Taco Thursday" for the tacos in the canteen were always half price that day.
"Congrats you two!" Jenny smiled, as she passed them in the corridor.
"What did she mean by that?" Rob wondered aloud, clueless as always.
"Congrats to Ollie and Martha going out, obviously," Lilly retaliated."How does she know we're going out? We've only told 11 people (The gang, Cassie, Maxwell, Mrs Fitzgerald & Ollie's parents) - in confidence," Ollie pointed out.
Sid shrugged. "Beats me."
"Jas, what did you do?" Martha accused her. If there was trouble, it was usually Jas' fault.
"I didn't do anything! I swear!" Jas protested. "It was probably one of the other gossip girls like Natasha or Shanita or Carla!" Lilly's eyes widened, remembering what she had overheard the other day."I saw Carla talking to Rufus yesterday," she blurted out, "Something about getting their revenge." They all gasped. Martha turned to Ollie.
"We HAVE to find them," she told him. And so they both walked briskly off.As Ollie and Martha dashed off, Carla appeared and grabbed Lilly's arm. (Talk about speak of the devil!)
"We need to talk," Carla demanded. Lilly nodded, and the two girls went into a nearby stationary cupboard. Poor Rob was more confused than ever at this point, so Jas and Sid started talking about aliens to distract him."So, what did you want to talk to me about?" Lilly asked, as Carla dragged the door shut.
"Well," Carla replied, foregoing the original plan slightly, "I wanted to apologize for that time in year 11, when I tried to uh, kiss Rob. He can't help being so attractive. I guess I was just jealous of you."Lilly's jaw dropped; she hadn't expected Carla to apologize!
"Really?" Was the only word her shocked self could muster.
"Yeah," Carla continued, "Jealous of you being so lucky. You know how many people like him. I'm sorry. Do you forgive me?"Carla was relieved to get that off her chest. Even if it meant she couldn't follow through with her part of the plan, she was glad she'd got some closure.
Lilly thought hard for a moment.
"Alright, but hands off him from now on or else," she teased. Carla let out a small chuckle, the kind you do when you're nervous.
"Got it."Suddenly, Shanita burst in.
"You won't believe what's going on in the corridor!" She gushed without much explanation, "Follow me!" Lilly shrugged and followed her, confused and curious as to what was going on. Carla hung back for a moment and smiled to herself; phase one was complete. To say the least, it was quite a sight outside. Rufus and Ollie were having a full-blown argument about who should get Martha, who was trying unsuccessfully to block them out. Two groups had formed on either side: one supporting Ollie, and the other Rufus. Jake in year 10 (who didn't really have a side) had even taken out his phone and started recording the event. No sooner had Lilly joined her gang, and Shanita hers, that it turned into a fight.
Martha backed away; she wasn't getting involved without a good reason. Rufus punched Ollie in the stomach. Ollie stumbled back. Rufus tried to punch Ollie again but Ollie ducked and kicked his shin. Rufus winced but was back on his feet in a second. He tried to strike Ollie again, who in turn dodged. Rufus turned round to his supporters, asking if they had any ideas.
"That's it," Martha decided - she'd had enough. "Time to end this."
She walked over to Rufus and hit him with her bag. Rufus, thinking that it was Ollie, spun around and hit her hard. Not a moment later, he realized what he'd done. But it was too late. Gasps of panic filled the corridor as Martha blacked out.
