It was Martha's last day at Greatacre. She and her roommate Cindy, who was also on a trial term, were packing their stuff into their bags.
"Are you alright Martha?" Cindy inquired, carefully arranging her notebooks in her suitcase. "You seem distracted."Cindy was a fair-skinned girl, with ginger hair and rosy cheeks. Her eyes shone like sapphires, and beige freckles scattered her face.
"I'm fine," Martha replied, "Just thinking about things."
School had finished for the term, so the students were allowed to leave the premises once they'd packed up and signed out. The rest of the gang were having tea at the den, and Martha was going to surprise them. Well, not ALL of them - just Ollie. You see, they hadn't spoken in person for four whole months and she didn't believe in half measures. Best of all, the others were in on the secret surprise. Even Jas had managed to keep her lips zipped, which was an achievement on its own.
"Are you looking forward to going home?" Cindy asked, making small talk. They didn't have much time for human interactions at Greatacre, so this was their first proper conversation.
"Yes," Martha answered, "It will be nice to see my mother and friends again."
"Yeah, it will be," Cindy nodded her head in agreement. "Greatacre was great though."*Fast forward four hours*
It was 5pm when the doorbell rang. It wasn't Martha who entered but the delivery guy, for the gang had ordered pizza. Pepperoni thin based, to be precise. Jas had just finished her fourth slice of pizza when her phone pinged.
"I'm right outside," Martha texted her.
"Got to go," she said, looking up from her phone, "Dad said. See ya!" She winked discreetly and kissed Sid on the cheek before walking outside. She saw Martha and gave her best friend a quick hug."It's good to see you again," Jas grinned.
"You too," Martha smiled back.Jas hid in a nearby bush so she could still hear all the action. Martha then knocked on the door three times instead of four, so that Ollie wouldn't think it was her. You see, in the gang they had a knocking knocking code. Six knocks meant Ollie, five meant Sid, four meant Martha, three meant Rob, two meant Jas, and one meant Lilly.
"Who could that be?" Lilly wondered aloud, remembering her line. She discreetly nudged Rob, who in turn shrugged and said "Beats me."
"Well, there's only one way to find out," Sid replied on cue, "Come in!" Martha walked in.
"Hello again," she greeted.
"Yay, you're back!" Lilly, Rob and Sid chorused, just as they had practiced.Ollie seemed to freeze in shock for a few seconds before snapping back to reality.
"Martha!" He cried, running over to hug her.A/N: Please tell me I'm not the only one who sees the resemblance between Hunter and Jason.
