To Race A Hasting

Chapter 17

"So tell me about yourself Lexi" Sandra says. I glance at Pete and then turn to Sandra again.

"Well, I'm 17, I like to skateboard, I like cars, I have a brother and I live with my mom" I tell her.

"What does your mother do for a living?" Pete asks.

"She works in a nursing home" Pete nods approvingly.

"And what about your father. What does he do?" Sandra asks me. I feel tears brim at my eyes.

"He's dead" I tell everyone without looking at them "He died in a car accident 2 years ago" Everyone is silent. I move the food around on my plate.

"I'm so sorry Lexi" Sandra says. I sigh and smile.

"It's fine. I've learned how to deal with it. I think"

"What do you mean you think?" Ofe asks.

"It's just everything started spiraling out of control when it happened and now I feel like I can't keep grip on who I am because when I express that side of myself, bad things happen" I look at Pete and he smiles at me "I'm so sorry, I have just made this so depressing"

"It's fine" Pete says.

After dinner I decide it's time for me to go home. Chelsea said she'd drive me. Grant, Ofe and Josh tag along too.

I go and hug Sandra goodbye and the same with Pete.

"Move the picture from beside your bed" I whisper in his ear and turn to leave.

"Where to miss Hasting?" Chelsea asks, mimicking a British accent. I laugh.

"12 County Avenue please" She laughs and nods.

"Oh come on, think about it, if they still walked the face of the earth then we could train them to nice to humans" I say arguing with Ofe.

"That would not happen if dinosaurs were still alive" Ofe says shaking his head.

"Okay you know what come inside with me now" I say. Everyone gets out the car to come in my house.

"Max!!!!!!" I yell "Get down here brotha" I say in a gangster voice. My friends laugh.

"What up sis?" He says then he notices the others "Who are these" Max asks.

"This is Chelsea, Grant, Ofe and Josh. Guys this is my brother. Now answer me this, if dinosaurs still walked the earth, could we or could we not train them to be nice top humans?" I say and then ask him.

"I guess" He says shrugging. I turn around to Ofe.

"Ha! I told you!" I yell. Max laughs and goes into the kitchen.

3 weekslater

I sit on one of the hospital chairs. Apparently Christian has become more responsive and should wake up soon. Hopefully. Pete and his family are also here but for his mother. Its about 10pm when Enzo comes in and asks to speak to me.

We walk into another area of the hospital to speak.

"What's up?" I ask.

"There's a huge race tonight and we have about 15 people wanting to race you" He says.

"So?"

"You have to race. I know it isn't safe right now but we need the money and tonight is our one and only chance to get more racers for the crew" I sigh and nod.

"Yeah okay"

"That's my street racing girl" Enzo says making me laugh.

Grant's POV:

"You kids should go home and sleep" Dad says. We nod our head and get up to leave the hospital. We are about to turn the corner when we hear muttering.

"So?' I hear a girl ask.

"You have to race. I know it isn't safe right now but we need the money and tonight is our one and only chance to get more racers for the crew" A man says. I peek around the corner and see Lexi with the guy called Enzo she sometimes leaves with in school.

"Yeah okay"

"That's my street racing girl" He says and Lexi laughs.

"We should follow them" Ofe says.

"Yeah. I think Chelsea was right a few weeks ago. I think she is hiding something" Josh agrees. I nod my head and so does Chelsea.

"So we follow them. Let's go" I say as we follow them.
