chapter eight
( afterlife )THE NEXT three days were the most boring and slowest days Odeya Stilinski had ever experienced in her entire life. The long draining days were slower then when she had written her first exams in grade nine—and that had been pretty slow considering she hadn't studied what so ever.
The first day she had cleaned up her room and gotten rid of items she had been carrying around for years with absolutely no purpose. She threw out months old garbage, brought down dishes she didn't know she had stored up in her room, and even some Halloween candy that had been underneath her bed for god knows how long.
The second day Odeya finally stayed up all day without having to catch her body up with sleep. She finally felt like she was regaining her strength and everything was going back to normal. She even woke up early and made breakfast for her family. Despite her burning the scrambled eggs the first time the second batch wasn't too bad. The only reminder that she had actually died was not being able to keep food down. Almost everything she ate aside from liquids and small amounts of fruit would come up less then ten minutes later.
So now here she was three days later, hauled up in her room laying in bed. Her hands were across her stomach while some new song by Selena Gomez blasted through her speakers. Well, it wasn't a new song but for Odeya who had been out of the loop for months it was. She stared up at her ceiling with a million thoughts swimming around in her head.
The constant one was where was Derek? was he ever going to come back?
Why didn't she have a tail anymore? Was she not a mermaid anymore?Had she really seen her mother that night she woke up?
She hadn't told anyone about that night because she knew if she did she would for sure sound crazy and possibly even end up in Eichen. But that night it felt like her mom was really there, alive. . .for the most part.
Another question was when she would be going back to school? How would they explain her coming back from the dead? honestly she didn't even care anymore how they explained it she just wanted to go to school, see normal kids her age, maybe even talk to coach. She missed seeing him scream at Stiles with disappointment.
"Odeya!" Lydia yelled from outside of the teenagers door. Odeya furrowed her brows but didn't move. She didn't remember making plans with Lydia. "Odeya?" she called out again.
"Just walk in!" Odeya shouted across the room so she would be able to hear.
One person she really had missed was Lydia. She missed how much they used to talk, well, Lydia would talk mostly but that worked out for Odeya since she preferred to listen. She never was as close with Allison or Malia or Kira as she was with Lydia and she didn't understand how that was possible. She practically treated her brother like crap for years and yet Odeya couldn't help but love her. She was just always there, sending unconditional love and support. Never judgment and never pity.
