It's late afternoon by the time we find the exact place Buddy was leading us to. The place is a shed. Silence devours the area. Not even a single bird chirps in the light of the setting sun. Even the soft wind seems to die down and the snowflakes that originally floated down from the dark clouds in the sky now cease to fall.
I glance around the clearing to find not a single soul in sight. "Halt." I mumble to my dog who had continued forth to the door which seems to be blocked closed. From the outside.
I gesture for Drew to follow as I grab my bow and make my way closer to the door in silence.
Buddy begins growling, but I quickly mumble a 'stand down' to him.
I notice the lock is a simple pick-lock and pull the bobby-pin out of my hair. With that I pick the lock with ease. It snaps unlocked, and along with it, it snaps my bobby-pin, "Crap." I mutter and throw the half-piece of the bobby-pin on the ground.
With one swift movement I load an arrow into my bow and nod for Drew to kick the door open. He does so and we both aim our weapons inside. I instantly see a young teenage girl cramped in a cabinet. She looks up at us and shakes her head, "You shouldn't have done that." She whispers in a terrified tone. I'm confused for only a split second before the Roof-Crawler hangs right in front of the door in my face and releases an incredibly loud screech. My ears ring, but I make time to allow the loaded arrow to fly straight into it's ugly face. The arrow goes straight through the creatures neck causing it to drop from the roof onto the ground. Although, it continues to lash out with it's unnaturally large claws and snaps it's jaws in hunger for blood.
As soon as it stops moving, I reach a hand up to my stinging ear to feel the gooey substance which is quickly revealed to be that of my own blood. "Jess, you're bleeding." Drew says as if I didn't realise.
"No shit, I am." I wipe the blood away with my sleeves, "How did it do that?" I mutter, wiping my bloodied hand off on my shirt.
"Who the hell are you two?" The girl snaps.
"Jessica," I gesture to myself, "And, Drew." I gesture to him beside me. "Your turn." I say, "What's your name and what're you doing in here?" I question her with a stern tone.
"Amy. My group locked me in here. I don't know why." She answers in an equally stern tone.
"How old are you?" I ask her.
"Fourteen. I'll ask the same of you." She demands. I'm kind of surprised since she's so intimidating. She seems like she could kill us on the spot.
"Uh... Nineteen." I say, calculating it in my head. Last Winter me and Drew were definitely eighteen, so now we are surely nineteen. I guess it's kind of hard to keep track of age since birthdays can't be celebrated. I can barely remember my own birthday.
"Hmph." She steps out of the shed and turns to Drew, "I'll have my cap back." She holds a hand out for him to give it to her. As soon as she has it back she seems to examine it, before putting it on over her dark brown, shoulder-length hair. "How did you get it in the first place anyway?" She asks us.
"My dog found it." I gesture for my dog who still stays seated where I originally told him to halt, "C'mere." I command Buddy. He instantly stands and trots in over, sniffing Amy's boots.
"Aw, he's so cute." She smiles and gives him a quick pat on the head, "What's his name?"
"Buddy." Drew answers her for me.
"Well, Buddy's adorable." She says, her face immediately seems to set back to the strong girl she was at first. "So, where's camp?" She asks.
I'm a little surprised that she asked that since she almost seems to hate us in some way. "You want to come with us?" Drew questions.
