After Normani left with Sammy, Lauren and Camila climbed into Camila's two seater Porsche', it was her present to herself after Samuel was born. She needed to feel sexy again and her Candy Apple Red, two seater Porsche screamed sexy. With the wind blowing in their hair and all the fresh air one could possibly need surrounding them, they rode in silence. But it wasn't the normal silence. It was a silence only they could understand. They were placing everything in its proper place so that when they got to their office, all could be placed on the table.
Flashback
"Camila, are you sure this is okay? Basketball is your thing. What we have is so much greater than any success that basketball can ever, ever bring. If me playing basketball will come between us, then this contract means nothing." Lauren's emerald green eyes were exuding love. Being in that moment, feeling everything that she felt, reminded her of why she loved Lauren in the first place. She loved how selfless Lauren was. Lauren had been by her side for the past two years. She was at every practice, game, and meeting that even mentioned Camila's name. In fact, Lauren was Camila's career. She took care of everything and anything that wasn't physically stepping out on the court to play.
"I'm behind you one hundred percent whatever you choose to do. It would be the best feeling in the world to step in bounds, pass the ball to my fiancé, and celebrate the play. But it would be just as amazing to see you sitting in the stands, cheering me on." Camila rubbed Lauren's hand with the pad of her thumb.
"If I do this, there will be conditions. Condition one: we leave it all on the court, no work once we leave the arena or the practice facilities. Condition two: I stop playing if basketball begins to interfere with us. I didn't go to business school for nothing, I'm happy running our home. Condition three: we keep all lines of communication open." Lauren was serious. She was going to sign the dotted line, but only if Camila supported her. She didn't want to infringe on her fiancé’s dream.
"Done. Done. Andddd DONE! Put your John Hancock on that baby!" Lauren signed the papers. She was officially a Miami Devil.
End Flashback
Camila parked her car in the garage of "In Bounds", their office space where conversations involving work were welcome. In Bounds was Ally's idea. She said that since Lauren was no longer running Camila's career off the court, they needed a place outside of their home. After finding the perfect place, the Fab Four, as Camila, Lauren, Normani, and Ally had dubbed themselves, settled in and began creating a space that was full of positive thoughts and energy.
"Alright, hit me with it," Lauren sat down as Camila walked up to the SmartBoard and began making a chart. Since Samuel was getting older, charts seemed to work wonders with the kid. He understood that green meant good and red stood for bad. Not only did Samuel take a liking to it, but so did his parents. Charts made everything clearer.
Camila drew up a chart, filled in and labeled a few things, and then began explain it to Lauren. "These are the terms of the agreement," Camila pointed to a column that read the same three phrases that she had scribbled on the paper earlier. "NEW ORLEANS", "25 MILL x 2", "NEXT SEASON", Camila also added a few more: "Sam?", "Als and Mani", "Family", "US"
"Are those the terms of the trade?" Lauren questioned, trying to make this work out in her head.
"Basically. The little things are still negotiable."
"Okay, let's talk about the immovable factor in this equation. Sammy...he's young, not in school, but he's doing so well here. He's got a routine and I'm so afraid to just uproot him." Lauren wrote 'Camz' + 'Laur' + "SAMMY" = family
"If we move, then he moves. I'm not letting someone else raise our son." Camila was firm yet loving in her determination to make it all equal up. "Mani had a good point, he's not in school, we can find him a great school and set some play dates up. We've got some time to get him settled in with a routine."
"We can structure our move around him. Keep his nap times, eating times, play times, everything the same and pack or unpack around him. I know our mothers won't mind coming to help for the first few weeks."
"Perfect, now that the Sammy situation is settled, what about Ally and Normani? We can't ask them to just up and move. They've got lives here." Camila was tapping the table, worrying about her best friends.
"Normani is from New Orleans, she's got a house down there. Her moving back home won't be an issue. Ally might take some convincing, but if she wants to stay here then she can and Normani will just handle the day to day things and Ally can preside over other things.” Lauren walked back to the board and put a checkmark by Normani and a dash next to Ally’s name. They were taken care of.
“What about our house all everything that we’ve established here? We can’t just give all of that up. Miami is where we grew up, where we went to college. We owe a lot to this place, Laur.” Just when they seem to have it all figured out, another problem appeared.
“I was just thinking the same thing. It’s not like we have to sell our house here and move everything to New Orleans if we do take the deal. I know that we promised not to be those athletes who have a house in every state and a condo in every country, but if you think about it, keeping our house here and renting one in New Orleans will work just fine. Miami can be our home base, we can return here when the seasons are over, during the summer we can come back home and relax. We can make this work, especially if Ally is going to be based in Miami.”
“So are we actually going to take this deal? I don’t see a problem with it and for every problem that comes up,” Camila points to the board, “we seem to have a solution. If all the little details are finalized and look good, I say we sign the dotted lines.”
Lauren was in deep thought as Camila was talking. To her it seemed as though Camila was trying to talk herself into realizing that the deal was a really good one and one that they’d be stupid to pass up. She walked over to her wife and sealed the agreement with a kiss. “Let’s do it.”
