“Momma, can I please have a popsicle? It’s hot out.” Samuel gave Camila the famous Cabello pout because he knew what she was going to say and he hoped that he could change her answer.

Camila looked at her watch and then looked back to her pouting son. “Sam, you know that it’s close to dinner and your Mother would kill me if I allowed you ruin your dinner.”

“Well…what if I bring one for the twins and help them eat it? Would that make it any better?” He was trying so hard for that late afternoon snack.

“You have to watch Matthew and Madison carefully if you give them one. But I guess you guys can have one.”

“Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

“Eat it by the pool!” Camila yelled before he ran out of the house.

Camila and Lauren Jauregui-Cabello would have never guessed that life would have turned out so amazingly wonderful for them. Lauren retired from the game after six years of playing and Camila retired eight years after Lauren. They had four kids, Samuel, who was 9, Matthew and Madison, twins who were 4, and Savannah, who was ten months old.

About three years into retirement, Camila got the opportunity to coach for the New Orleans Knights, the mens’ professional basketball team out of New Orleans.  Of course Camila took the job.  She was the first female head coach of an NBA team.  One of her first decisions as head coach was to hire Lauren as assistant coach for the Knights.  Once again, they were called the Dynamic Duo, only this time there were on the side lines.

Same goes for Dinah, after she retired, she moved back to Miami for a little while to raise her family. After her youngest turned five, she returned back to New Orleans to join Lauren and Camila as the physical trainer for the Knights. After Dinah got used to being on the other side of the court, the players were beating their personal best by way more than anyone would have ever thought was possible.

The Knights were on fire and they had the Devil’s Pitchfork to thank for that.  Everyone who was anyone in the world of basketball wanted a piece of them before the Conference Championships.  Lauren, Camila, and Dinah were the type of coaches that solely focused on the players, but they collectively decided to give one interview the day before the big game.

“They’ve got it good.  The Knights are the only team in the NBA to have three former professional basketball players at the head of their coaching staff.  I’ve seen how they work together and they are literally unstoppable.”   Lauren and Camila listened as Mike Jones, one of their favorite radio personalities, unknowingly began to introduce them to his listeners.

“Hey Mike, you’ll never guess who’s called in to talk with us today.” Ellen, Mike’s co-host, turned her computer screen to show Mike a picture of Lauren and Camila.

“Well I’ll be. Folks have we got a surprise for you today. It seems as though Lauren and Camila Jauregui-Cabello along with Dinah Hansen have called in to talk with us.” Mike pushed all the buttons and fixed everything that he needed to so that the coaches could talk. “Hey there Lauren, Camila, and Dinah! How’s the Big Easy treatin’ ya?”

“The south is the best place to be right now. Everyone is so nice and thoughtful, we just can’t get enough of it,” Camila told Mike truthfully.

“So how about this big game that everyone will be watching tomorrow?  Are the Knights ready?”

“They are infinity percent ready. And Dinah is a huge reason for that. She only added to what Camila and I already brought.”

“How does it feel to be at the forefront of such greatness? I mean this team is so young and already great, and anything that you three brought to them made it instantly better.”

“We were actually talking about this very thing a few days ago.  Back in our days, we played because we loved the game, every time we stepped out on the court we gave our all and if the end result turned out to be a national championship, then so be it.  Camila, Lauren, and I expect the same from our players.  If you want to be there for basketball, then we welcome you and if you don’t, there’s the door.  Our players love basketball so much that they leave everything they have on the court every single time that they’re out there.  It’s because of their dedication and hard work that we’re here today.”

“And as cheesy as what Dinah said sounds, it’s the truth.  So tonight we hope that their hard work and dedication pays off. The three of us are only there for support and guidance.”

“There you have it folks! Straight from the mouths of the coaches at the forefront of the force that is The Knights.” Mike and Ellen began to wrap up the interview, but were interrupted up Lauren.

“Oh! Sammy, Mads, and Matt have something to say before we get ready for dinner.” Lauren puts it on speaker phone for her three children to say what they’d practiced.

“GO KNIGHTS!” They yelled in unison and the five adults laughed at the adorable scene that was taking place in front of them.

“They are so precious. Well, Ellen and I wish you luck and send nothing but positive thoughts and vibes your way as you prepare for the big day tomorrow.  Hopefully we’ll talk to you guys after the game!”

Lauren, Camila, and Dinah thought that their championship game was one of the best games to ever be played, but this game would easily take that title.

There was twenty-five seconds left in the fourth quarter with the score at 122 to 121, the Knights were on the losing side.  Dinah called a timeout and Lauren thought of a play that they could use. What her players needed was a three pointer, but the Mavericks knew who their strong players were and where the ball was going to go.  Lauren had to think quick.

     “Alright, try 23.”

Camila looked at the clock they had thirty seconds left on the timeout clock. “We haven’t worked that play much, are you sure about this?”

“Yes. 23. Play hot potato until there’s ten seconds left on the clock, pass to Caine and Caine shoot. All we need is a three. Got it? Finish on three…1…2..3..”

     “FINISH”.

The ball was in play. Pass….player….pass…player…pass…player…pass…Caine. He goes for the approach.

     Nothing but net.
