"Anne, you're absolutely mad! Tea with Gilbert Blythe? This is not a matter to be taken lightly!" Diana harshly whispers to me. She knows everything, and no matter how hard I try to convince her that Gilbert and I are not a thing, she will not listen.
"It's not that big a deal. Marilla and I were simply invited over. Their hospitality is immensely appreciated."
"If it's not that big a deal, then invite Ruby Gillis along," Diana says.
"Are you crazy?? She'll drive Gilbert mad! I cannot trust her around him, for she has eyes for him and that'll disrupt the pleasantry of our tea."
"See? You're jealous. You like Gilbert Blythe!" Diana cries, victorious.
"No, I do not!" I hiss. "And keep your voice down. Lord knows there are oh so many eavesdroppers at school."
Diana smiles. "Alright, I'll keep my voice down. But you have to tell me everything that happens on Saturday."
"Oh, Diana, I swear on my own imagination that if anything, anything at all happens, you will be the first to know." Our pinkies intertwine, and we give our hands a good shake. Then we stand up and hug, and then return to our classes.
