The Epidemic

Chapter Three

Meanwhile, In London

The boys had left the apartment after talking about lighter topics to go get ready for the next day for talking with the diplomats of Great Britain.

Jacob and I were putting the finishing touches on our presentation when Jacob got a call from Nicola.

"Hold on, keep working, I have to take this." Jacob said as he left the room, holding his phone.

I put a graph on a poster board and typed on a power point presentation as I listened to Jacob's conversation, attempting to analyze who he was talking to and why.

I managed to piece together that he was talking to Nicola, one of the diplomats from North Macedonia who we were working with to free the people of the Federation. He and his wife kept us safe from Federation search teams who were trying to find Jacob and I by hiding us in their shelter that was used for those targeted by Germany in World War Two.

Nicola told us that Jews mostly hid down here and hoped for the best. In fact, this was one of the best shelters, as it was well-hidden and secluded from the rest of the house. The entrance was in their closet, hidden by several dresses that belonged to Katina, Nicola's wife.

Anyway, Jacob seemed concerned about the information that Nicola was giving him based on the tone of his muffled voice.

He came out of the room and stared at me for a good two minutes or so before sighing and saying something that I couldn't believe.

"Cancel the meeting."

I cocked my head. "Why?"

He sighed again. "We need to go back to Macedonia. There's trouble in The Federation."
