Chapter 3- Beware Of The Boys

“Be careful of the boys,

You’ve only just grown up,

It’s not your fault that you’ve got these beautiful eyes,

Once you’ve realised this you will become shy,

Look after your youth,

This time wont come again”,- Beware of the Boys-Punjabi Mc

“Dude you’ve been moping around for the past month,” cried Maya finally getting sick of my mood.

“Well what do you expect me to do? I just met the guy that broke my heart 3 years ago last month. Do you expect me to be all happy and act as though nothing ever happened?” I yelled at her.

God Damn Zayn!

Maya sighed heavily “No… I just want you to get over the past and move on. You’re bringing everyone down here, even Charlie and that’s impossible.”

I didn’t argue with Maya, she was right though. Charlie wasn’t as happy as she used to be and it was obvious that it was because of me. I sighed and decided that Maya was right.

“Fine. I’ll try to forget about him. Okay happy?” I said stubbornly.

Maya suddenly squealed with joy and hugged me tightly.

“Okay then lets get you hooked with some guy!” shouted Maya

“What?!” I screamed.

Maya and Charlie had dragged me to a party despite all my protesting and fighting. These two were unfortunately on a mission to get me a boyfriend and get me to move on. To tell you the truth I was actually hoping that it might just happen.

“Wow... How many people are here?” I asked surprised.

When the girls said that we were going to a party, I expected it to be at someone’s house or in their backyard but no…we were at a hall in the middle of Manchester and by the looks of it, practically the whole university had turned up.

“Basically all of first and second year.” Charlie replied enthusiastically before running into the mass crowd of students dancing to the continuous loud thumping of the music.

“Hey Charlie!” I yelled.

I turned to Maya “Where is she going?”.

“Don’t worry she always does this… and I mean every time. Knowing her we wont find her until morning.” Chuckled Maya.

I sighed following her to the drink and food table. I instantly made a face when I saw the alcohol. Maya sniggered at my facial expression.

“Relax were not drinking anything, everyone knows that they’re spiked,”

I let out a sigh of relief.

I watched the crowd of students dancing along to some pop song and felt a sudden urge to join them.

Suddenly one of my all time favourite songs came on. It surprised me because it was a Punjabi song. Maya noticed my expression.

“This song is really popular in this country…you probably noticed by now that most of the people here are Punjabi.”
