"You do know I'm a minor, right? I can't legally tell you anything useful."
After nearly half an hour of dead silence, deflected questions, and straight up ignored requests to be reasonable, the boy FINALLY decides to speak, and it's to tell them that he's not going to talk?! Superman is supposed to be the model of patience, he literally just spent thirty minutes watching some random kid sit quietly while Black Canary tried every psychological trick in the book to get him to open up, but even he was reaching a breaking point by now. He had started this interrogation from the sidelines, observing from behind the one way glass, alongside Wonder Woman, Green Arrow, and a few other curious heroes who poked their heads in from time to time. However, when it became obvious that nothing was happening, they slowly filtered out in an attempt to find something more productive. As the highest level member currently present, Superman felt obligated to stay. After all, Batman would, if nothing else. Actually, he imagined Batman wouldn't have let it go on this long. The Dark Knight would have marched in immediately, shot an infamous glare, and the boy would be a quivering mess in the corner spilling every secret he'd ever acquired.
The atmosphere was different when Superman entered the room. As soon as Canary grudgingly greeted him, the change was clear. No longer was the kid looking off to the side, disconnected from the situation. A single, baby blue eye, coupled with the reflective material of his remaining mask lens, stared intently in his direction. He was still quiet, but not from defiance. Slowly, a smile began to draw across his face, before exploding into a large toothy grin. This development was...unexpected, but it wasn't unrecognizable to the long time hero.
"So, I take it you're a fan of mine?"
An overzealous, though oddly restrained, nod was the boy's answer. Letting out the kindest sounding chuckle he could, Superman secretly wished he would have known this about twenty-nine minutes sooner. No matter, best to just roll with it and hope for a quick cross examination at this point.
"I'm sure this isn't how you were hoping to meet," Superman insinuated, aiming for a bit of guilt. Unfortunately, the boy didn't seem too affected, but he did give a rather cheeky shrug. The two heroes exchanged a glance, where Canary was silently judging Superman's interrogating skills, while he was still committed to trying.
"You know," Superman scanned the boy before continuing, "this is a rather nice costume, son."
Lighting up at the compliment, the boy immediately straightened up to give his idol a better view. A large blue shape, almost like a bird, was set against a black background. The cape was the same shade of blue, as well as his gloves and boots.
"I designed it myself, you know."
That wasn't hard to believe, nor was it much of a stretch to assume who inspired such a look. Still, it wasn't that bad. Certainly better than most villain outfits the leaguers have come across.
"It's very nice." Canary joined in.
The fact that multiple heroes were now complimenting his fashion sense seemed to spur on some kind of confidence.
"I know, right? That's what I'm always saying! Some people know these things, and others should learn just to keep their uninformed opinions to-"
Suddenly, he stopped himself. An amused smirk rested on his face, as he settled back in his chair. A slight shake of the head sent his dark bangs to the side, while he crossed his arms.
"Almost had me there."
The boy mumbled something under his breath, which Superman easily caught, but that didn't mean the hero understood it.
