"Do you understand exactly what you need to do? There really is no room for error. Your window of time is very small especially once he starts to realize what you're doing," my friend Teresa tells me. We have gone over the plan so many times that my head felt like it was going to explode.

"I'm pretty sure, I've got it, Teresa. I don't want to screw up. I wish there was a way to guarantee that I wouldn't."

"You just have to make sure you follow the instructions exactly how I told you. No matter what gets said to you or what's going on around you, you have to finish that spell. I don't know how to make myself any clearer.

"I've got this. I can do this."

The equinox and my birthday are the same day, so I took the whole day off of work. I spent the majority of the day prepping for the possession. The Pumpkin King was right. I had promised to do what was right for the pumpkin movement. I couldn't just abandon him. We had already done so much work.

Once night fell, I grabbed everything I needed and headed to the pumpkin patch. This particular walk through the patch was different because it was almost as if my feet were leading me. I didn't consciously go anywhere yet I knew I was exactly where I needed to be. Around the area where I saw the giant pumpkins, I found several hooded individuals circling them. Because all of their hoods were up, I decided I would put mine up to. At first the people were quiet as the circled the pumpkin and then they started to chant.

"All hail pumpkin, all hail pumpkin."

The wind started and it picked up quickly. The air was so cold that my pie temperature insides actually started to chill. Before me, the Pumpkin King appears.

"Are you ready to finish the spell, Jeanette?"

"Yes, my king."

"Please come into the middle of the circle and remove your hood."

I follow his instructions. The hooded figures stop chanting and move to allow me to enter their circle. One by one, each of them remove their hoods. Each figure represented a friend I had sacrificed to the pumpkin cause.

"Jeanette, in order to finish the spell, you have to accept certain things as inevitable. I will possess you and you will cease to exist. You have to say that you accept this. Please repeat after me. I accept the Pumpkin King as my king."

"I accept the Pumpkin King as my king."

"I submit completely to the Pumpkin King."

"I submit completely to the Pumpkin King."

"I accept the possession of the Pumpkin King."

I hesitate because around me I see all of my friends. All of their eyes are black and glazed over. I barely recognize them. I fi go through this, they'll never be the same. I'll never be the same. I love pumpkin but there's a line that I have crossed. I have to fix it.

"Jeanette! Repeat the line!"

"I bind you, Pumpkin King. I bind you, Pumpkin King. I bind you, Pumpkin King!"

"What are you doing," he yells unable to move from the spot he is in.

"I release you, Keegan," I say. One of the giant pumpkins explodes and Keegan falls to the ground.

"I release you, Kassie." Again, another giant pumpkin explodes, and Kassie falls to the ground.

"I release you, Gen." Another pumpkin explodes and Gen falls to the ground.

"Nooooo," the Pumpkin King thunders. "Stop this. You have no idea what you are doing! You are ruining everything!"

"I release you, Fred." As the last giant pumpkin explodes, Fred falls to the ground. I survey the pumpkin carnage as I prepare my final spell.

"I release you, Pumpkin King, back to the hell wince you came."

"No! Stop!"

"I release you back to hell, Pumpkin King." All around the pumpkin patch, pumpkins began to explode. One by one they left their pumpkin carcasses everywhere. Screaming, the Pumpkin King's head begins to grow. It gets bigger and bigger as it starts to shake.

"J-J-J-J-Jeanette don't do this. You don't want to do this."

"Beware...of...the...Pumpkining," I spit out as the Pumpkin King explodes leaving me covered in pumpkin guts.

"Where are we," Kassie asks looking around the pumpkin patch.

"What happened," Fred asks.

"It doesn't matter," I answer. "It's all over now. It's all over."

"Ew! Why are we all covered with pumpkin," Gen asks in disgust?

All I could do is laugh knowing that I wouldn't want anything to do with pumpkin for a long time.
