They told me it had to be done during a full moon. In order to invoke the full power of its majesty, the spell I was seeking had to be done during the full moon. I have never summoned anything before but I also never felt like I had to. I did the research. I read as much as I could about not messing with spirits. I was told I didn't really have to go anywhere special. I just needed to be somewhere I wouldn't be disturbed. I picked the pumpkin patch in the middle of the night. I felt safest here.

In everything I read, I was told I would need to cast a circle. Because sea salt was the cheapest thing I had on hand, I took the box I had in the cabinet and cast a circle around myself. I was told that the circle needs to not be disturbed for at least thirty minutes. I came to this pumpkin patch by myself in the night time. I could only hope that I won't be disturbed but I guess this is a risk I have to be willing to take.  I was told I would need to draw in as much energy as I can. They said I could do it several different ways. Poetry was one of my favorite pursuits. I wrote a short poem and repeated it over and over again hoping it would be pleasing to the Pumpkin deities.

"I lust for pumpkin,
Like you lust for guys.
But while you wish for kisses,
I wish for pies.

I dream of pumpkin,
like you dream of bull,
But while you wake up empty,
I wake up full."

The next step I knew I had to mark the four cardinal points, north, south, east and west. Once doing that, it was time to ask for the presence of the deity I wanted to work with. This deity would be king or queen of the pumpkins. I wasn't exactly sure who I was going to get but it didn't matter at this point.

"I come to you, tonight, underneath the full moon, to ask you, the leader of the pumpkins, for your guidance for my intentions," I called into the air with my arms extended straight up.

"I need your help. It is almost the season of the pumpkin and I have not been allowed to truly enjoy it. I, not only, have not been allowed to enjoy it but I have been shamed and ridiculed. I think it has become time for us to fight back."

I sent my plea into the darkness and waited anxiously for a response. It felt like it took a long time to come back but when it did, it was big and powerful. I had a clear sky with full view of the moon up until that point. After I sent my plea to the pumpkin leaders, it got significantly colder. The wind picked up and the clouds started to cover the moon.

"Who dare disturbs the Pumpkin King in the month of August," a loud, thunderous voice boomed from up above me.

"It is I, Jeanette Feldman, your humble servant."

"It is well known that the Pumpkin King is not to be disturbed before the autumunal equinox."

"Oh no, not you too, Pumpkin King. I feel I'm not asking for much. I am a lover of all things pumpkin and pumpkin spice. All I want is to be able to enjoy the fruit and spice of the harvest for as long as possible without being tortured. I want to teach the non-believers a lesson."

"What is it that you have in mind?"

"I'm not exactly sure."

"Is it vengeance that you are seeking?"

To answer this question, I had to dig deep. Some of these bullies were actually my friends. I wanted them punished but not fatally or anything like that.

"Are there levels of punishment? Is there away to get my point across without being completely extreme?"

Up until this point, the Pumpkin King had been a loud voice from above me but no longer. The wind whipped all around me and lightning and thunder crashed alerting me that I had indeed angered him.

"WHO SUMMONS THE KING OF PUMPKINS, IN AUGUST, ON THE NIGHT OF A FULL MOON FOR A MINOR INCONVENIENCE?! DO YOU THINK I AM SOME SORT OF JOKE?!"

In front of me out of the shadows a large figure appeared with the body of a man and the head of a jack o lantern. He was pissed.

"When you summon the Pumpkin King, you need to be sure of what you want. Once you invoke me, there is no going back. All you basic girls claim to love pumpkin, claim you would do anything for pumpkin but you lie. Are you as devoted as you claim to be?"

Getting on my knees and bowing my head I dig deep for the strength to answer him. "Yes, my king. I am a devoted servant."

"In doing this 'service' for you, you in return must do something for me. Are you willing to submit to your king?"

"I will do anything you ask me to do."

"You must bring me to all of the non-believers. It can't only be the ones you know. It needs to be as many as you can find. I need them so I can convert them and make the army of pumpkin stronger. There is a war on pumpkin. I need as many people in my arsenal as possible."

"Yes, my king. How shall I bring them to you?"

"You don't bring them to me, you bring me to them. When you are with a non-believer say this phrase before you leave them, 'Beware of the Pumpkining.' Then, when they are alone, I will come for them."

"What if they're never alone?"

" I have my ways," the Pumpkin King chuckles. " So I ask you this again, is this the vengeance you seek? Are you ready to join the army of pumpkin?"

"Yes, my king. I will join your army and fight against the war on pumpkins."

The wind picked up and blew red, yellow, and orange leaves around me. Through my veins I could feel my blood getting warmer. Actually, I could feel my blood getting hot. It felt like I had just put warm pies all over my body. The only thing I could smell was cinnamon, nutmeg,  and ginger with a pinch of clove. I had been invoked with the spirit of the Pumpkin King. Now spiced with power, the reckoning is ready to begin.
