Ben sat on the couch. Jennifer had already gone to sleep, for the first time in what seemed like days. After she got her memories back, it was as though she had an endless amount of energy, and if she wasn't spending it on the holo-computer, she wanted to spend it on.... other things. It got to the point where even Ben was exhausted.
The way Jennifer was acting was strange; Ben knew that this wasn't her, it couldn't be. He had known her for 7 years, not counting the time that passed after the asteroid, and the woman sleeping in the next room wasn't the Jennifer he knew.
It was as though something took control of her, a side of her that had mostly been repressed. He had seen a part of it a few months earlier, when he told her about the miscarriage.
He had just gotten her back. That night.... she was exactly the same as she used to be. As she had always been. There was something that changed in her the morning after all her memories returned.
Jennifer walked into the living room, and Ben turned around.
"I thought you were asleep." he said, standing up.
"You know me well enough to know that I was lying."
She walked over to the holo-computer again, turning it on.
She seemed deep in thought, allowing the computer to scan her.
"What are you searching for?" Ben asked suspiciously, walking over to her.
"Nothing." Jennifer said quickly, blocking his view of the screen.
"Don't lie to me, Jennifer." He tried to walk past her, but then felt something tight against his wrist.
"I told you, it was nothing." she told him, her voice now low and quiet, never releasing her grip.
He stared at her in denial; she was practically unrecognizable. This wasn't her, it couldn't be. Not once in their entire relationship had either of them done anything to physically hurt the other.
"I'm sorry." he said quietly, unapologetic.
Jennifer glared at him for a few more seconds before he left.
Ben knew exactly what she was searching for, and knew that he wouldn't be able to do anything to change her mind. That was one of the things that could never change with her.
She would always be stubborn.
