When the first boy enters the cafe it's always empty. Maybe it's because it's too late for most people to be getting their caffeine fix, maybe it's because the cafe isn't in the best part of town. No matter what, it's always empty.

He gets the same thing everyday: Yorkshire tea. He likes it with a single milk and single sugar and then he likes to sit by the window and look out into the street. It's simple. He likes when things are simple.

So he orders his tea and moves to sit in his regular seat. He'll sit there until midnight, when the shop closes and then he'll make his way home. It's a routine he has and it's simple. He likes simple routines.

He's sitting drinking his drink when the bell above the door chimes. He furrows his brow in confusion, but continues to focus out the window. Someone coming into the cafe isn't normal, it's not what he's used to.

His routine gets further ruined when someone sits across from him at his table. He chances a glance and sees it's a boy, maybe two years younger than himself. The boy is just looking out the window, two cookies on a plate. They appear to be chocolate chip and the first boys mouth waters at the fresh smell.

"What were you looking at?" The second boy asks. His eyes remain towards the window and the first boy drags his eyes away from the cookies and back outside.

"I don't know. Just the world I guess," the first boy replies. The second boy laughs and picks up a cookie, nibbling at it.

"Are you trying to be deep?" He asks, but he still doesn't look directly at the boy. They make eye contact through the reflexion in the window.

"I don't have to try. I'm very deep," boy one scoffs and the other boy chuckles and continues to nibble on the cookie.

"Everyone thinks they're deep."

"So you think you're deep?" The first boy tries to start an argument, but the second boy appears relaxed and easy going.

"No. I like to think I'm simple. I like things simple," the boy states. The first boy thinks about this and nods.

"Simple is good," he eventually replies.

"So are these cookies. You can have the other, I saw you looking at it earlier," the second boy tells him. The first boy hesitates and then reaches out for the cookie. He takes a large bite of it that makes the other boy laugh.

His laugh isn't something special or cute. It's loud and deep -like his voice. It actually startles the first boy, but he doesn't show it. It's a real laugh - happy and carefree.

They don't say anything else. They just eat cookies and boy one drinks his tea. The silence is comfortable and just...

Simple.
