As Lydia and Steven are walking down the sidewalk, everything seems normal. Lydia is looking at the changing leaves of fall and enjoying the slight breeze that is blowing. Meanwhile, Steven may look fine, but he is in a whole other world admiring Lydia.
"Her hair looks so beautiful when it's up like that. I love being able to see her whole face. I never noticed how many freckles she had. That little makeup really brings out her eyes too. I can't believe she had to go through all of that but now I'm here to show her how to be happy. As long as I don't upset Rose either cause I know she would kill me if I ever did anything to-" Steven's train of thought was cut off as he hit something hard right in front of him and fell backwards.
"Oh my gosh! Steven, are you okay," Lydia asked as she crouched on the ground beside him. Steven opened his eyes and all he could see was Lydia's face surrounded by light and while his head hurt from walking into a pole he spoke without thinking.
"You look like an angel," he said with a small smile on his face. Lydia blushed bright red and got up immediately.
"You must have hit your head really hard because now you are just being crazy. Come on, I'll help you up," Lydia said while holding out her hand. Realizing what he said, Steven turned bright red as well and took her hand get up.
"Hey, there's the coffee shop I was talking about," Steven said and pointed across the street to a sign that said Beans and Buns in beautiful cursive letters with little coffee beans scattered around it. Lydia had been here two or three times with Rose after school so she already knew what she would order as they safely headed across the street. They chose a seat in the corner by the window because it seemed like it would be really comfortable for them to talk due to the fact there was nobody else sitting in that corner. A waiter came over and they both ordered their coffee and sweet buns. Lydia ordered a cappuccino espresso with a chelsea bun and Steven ordered a caramel frappuccino with extra caramel and whipped cream and two cinnamon rolls.
"Do you really need that much sugar," Lydia asked Steven with her eyebrow raised and slight sarcasm in her voice.
"How else do you expect me to keep this smile up? It's all from my constant sugar high," Steven made jazz hands and an overexaggerated smile as he finished talking. Lydia giggled slightly and looked down. Steven loved that giggle and couldn't wait to hear it more often.
"Well, since I need all that sugar why does a small girl like you need all that caffeine," Steven asked making Lydia look back up with a small smile on her face.
"I need all that caffeine because I can't sleep very well so if I didn't have my daily espresso I would be asleep all the time," Lydia said twiddling her thumbs under the table because she never told anyone she can't sleep at night, not even Rose.
"Oh, that makes sense. Well, everyone has problems with something. Maybe you can see a doctor for your sleeping problems now that your are with Karen and Rose," Steven said with a reassuring smile trying to add some light to the situation.
"Yea you're right. Everything will be fine now that I'm with them," Lydia said and had a giant smile on her face that spread to her eyes looking at Steven. Steven just stared at her because when she smiled like that. She outshined everything in that small coffee shop. He didn't care how cheesy it sounded but he swore she could probably outshine she sun right now. While he wasn't paying attention, the waiter came back with their coffee and sweet buns.
"Thank you very much," Lydia said quietly and that broke Steven out of yet another train of thought. Steven automatically started to devour his cinnamon buns and Lydia just sipped her coffee and picked at her chelsea bun. When Steven noticed she wasn't really eating, he debated on whether or not he should say something or just leave it for now.
"She could have eaten something before she left the house not thinking. Maybe she really isn't hungry and only ordered it because I ordered some cinnamon buns. There is always that chance she isn't eating though... I'll make sure to tell Rose before I leave their house. I don't want to make her uncomfortable," Steven thought while looking out the window of the coffee shop. When he realized that Lydia had finished her coffee he thought he would try and start a conversation.
"So," Lydia looked up at Steven, "what's your favourite type of music?" Lydia started to think really hard so she could answer the question right.
"I would have to say my favourite music is pop rock and probably, don't laugh, musicals," Lydia said confidently in the beginning, but gradually got quieter.
"Okay, follow up question then. What's your favourite musical," Steven asked curiously as he put his head on his hands looking like a little kid.
"Heathers. I really love the music and the characters," Lydia said while looking him in the eye, "What's your favourite type of music?"
"Hmmmmmm probably a mixture of pop and pop rock. I have listened to a few musicals though. I listened to Hamilton which was really good and Be More Chill which was funny and good as well," Steven said with a smile on his face like he just got an ice cream for no reason. Lydia loved it when he smiled and wished she could tell him that, but she can only think of the what ifs.

"What if he is only taking pity on me cause of everything that happened? What if he thinks I'm boring after this date and never wants to see me again? What if he thinks I look weird or ugly with this stupid makeup on? This was a stupid idea I should have just stayed home. I knew this would never work. I'm so stupid. She was right. She's always right." Lydia started to spiral and it became hard for her to breathe. It all happened within minutes but Steven jumped over to try and calm her down, telling her that everything was okay and that he was there and wasn't going to leave her. Once she calmed down she quietly thanked him and asked if they could go home. All he did was put some money on the table and grab his jacket which showed he was ready to leave.

"I'm sorry we had to leave. I'm just really tired now and I want to lie down," Lydia said with her head down watching the sidewalk.
"It's fine, I completely understand. I could probably catch up on some paperwork this afternoon after I go home or I'll probably play video games instead because its funner," Steven said with a goofy smile.
"Funner isn't a word genius," Lydia said but her teeth her shattering slightly. The light breeze from earlier had made it really cold out and Steven realized she was only wearing a sweater and a skirt.
"Here," Steven said and handed her his jacket, "I'm not using it, so."
"Oh thanks, but you don't have to," Lydia said, but took the jacket anyway since she was cold. The jacket was at least two sizes two big.
"So cute," Steven thought as soon as she put it on. They then kept walking to Rose's house slowly getting closer as they walked. When they were almost there Steven decided to go for it and reached for Lydia's hand. She flinched a little since she isn't used to physical contact but she never pulled away. They were both blushing as they walked up to the house.
"I had a great time with you Lydia. I really hope you did too so we can do it again," Steven said looking into her eyes with a genuine smile on his face. Lydia looked into his eyes trying to see if he was lying but she couldn't see any trace of him trying to fool her.
"I would really like that too. Be safe on your way home and try to get some work done. I don't want you to get behind," Lydia said as she started to turn around and go in the door but first she stood up and kissed Steven on the cheek just like she did at her old house. Then, she ran into the house leaving him outside in shock.
"Nice jacket Lydia, I think Steven has the same one," Rose said with a cocky grin standing in the kitchen doorway.
