X was sitting in his bedroom, watching the cars roll by. The weekend had come, and his house was peaceful for the most part.
The yellow variable was on his phone, reading stuff on this story website he found. Reading was X's coping mechanism with his powers. He would read stories of magic and heros saving the day even when the world was against them. Those were his favorite.
X was still reading, but began to minorly worry, noticing that Four had not texted him. It may seem clingy, but after two days, the blue number still had not responded, even though he usually responds in a matter if minutes. He decided to give him the benefit of the doubt.
He slowly got up from his bed and went to his kitchen to get his mind of it. X was still not used to so much room to walk around in, since he was used to living in a cramped apartment with his parents.
The kitchen was filled with the scent of pancakes and bacon. X's stomach rumbled, as he craved for food. X turned to see his dad making breakfast and listening to some sort of pop music in the background. His mom, on the other hand, was in the other room on the phone with who he presumed to be someone from Variatropolis.
With all the changes, he was slowly adapting to his new enviornment. He plopped himself on the couch and continued reading.
"Hey, X. How'd you sleep?" The brown Z said from the stove.
"Well. What are you making?"
"Pancakes and bacon."
"Great!" X chimed.
"Could you come over here and help me, Sqirt?" X's dad asked, flipping a pancake only using the pan.
"Sure."
Cooking in the kitchen was not X's strongsuit, but he could make something decent if he really tried. After a few mistakes with the pan, X finally managed to flip a pancake only using the pan. His dad was impressed, and they soon made enough for the family of three. X grabbed some plates, and set up the table.
The brown Z was finishing up cooking the last of the bacon strips. "X, can you get your mother?"
"Yes, Dad."
X peaked into the room his mom was in. There were papers all over the table, and the window blinds were slightly open. X's mom was on the phone still.
Geez, it's almost been an hour.
"Mom?" X asked quietly.
The orange X looked at her son and put a finger to her lips. "Yeah, that will work. . . Tomorrow? . . . Great! I'll talk to you Monday. . . Thank you Ten."
Ten?
X's mom turned off the phone and set it on the table. "Yes, X? What do you need?"
"Uh, breakfast's ready."
"That's good. I really need some food in my system."
"Mom? If you don't mind me asking, who's Ten?"
"Oh, her? She's in charge of the town. Like a mayor, I guess. I was on a phone call with her about a job interview. She's a nice lady."
"Oh! Ok."
The two variables walked to the kitchen and sat patiently for the brown variable to come over and give them some food. The pancakes were light and fluffy, with the crunchy bacon on the side.
"You did a great job, Z," X's mom said politely.
"Wasn't just me, hun. X also did a few pancakes."
