Arjiah sat at the dining table in the manor, looking across it to Katerin and Fykes. Her expression was amused, yet astonished. These two were always planning something, it seemed. But this was quite a feat. "You're really going after this? There's a possibility that these are all just stories." She gestured over Katerin's notes. "You know how people get when they're bored... even scholars."
Fykes grinned. "It's one hell of a story, though."
"It's real," Katerin said. "I've done enough research to be sure of that... do you really think I would ask if I wasn't sure?"
Arjiah smiled. "But why go, even though it exists?" She studied them again. Fykes looked excited, as he always did when there were new things to see, and Katerin looked determined, as if she might try to move a mountain if that is what it took to get her there.
Arjiah would not be surprised to see her try it, if a mountain ever got in her way. The woman was just stubborn enough to pull it off.
Katerin laid her hands across the table. "There's a chance I could learn a lot. The giants are chroniclers of history... they could know so much about the Reclaimer's, the Ihmu'tahd."
Her tone held an earnest desire, but Arjiah could tell there was something deeper. "That's a lot of maybe, dear. Are you sure it's worth going so far?"
"Yes," Katerin answered without hesitation.
Arjiah nodded, unable to think of a way to dig any deeper on the subject, at the moment. "I'll admit I understand the draw..."
Fykes leaned forward with a mischievous expression. "So, that means you're coming with us, right?"
Arjiah drummed her fingers across the tabletop, thinking. "I'll... sail there with you. I miss the water. But I am not stepping off that boat, and I'll be coming straight home."
Fykes slapped the table with a smile, "Ha! Told you so." He held out a hand, and Katerin dropped a coin in it, her nose wrinkled.
Arjiah watched the exchange with a raised eyebrow. "So when do we leave?"
"We don't have a ship, yet," Katerin said.
"Jon's been more excited about this than that time he claims he met a siren." Fykes said, with a grin. "He'll find us something to work with."
Arjiah shook her head at them. "Alright. Keep in touch, and I'll meet you at the manor before we leave."
"You're really going to like Trunk," Fykes said.
Fisherman rushed about the docks, fixing nets and preparing for their day, and the sailors from the larger ships loaded and unloaded all manner of things. The docks here were still small, but they did not lack for life.
But this morning there was something peculiar here. A metal plated ship. Jon had arrived three days ago–after nearly a tenday of being gone, and had insisted Katerin go and speak to the captain of this ship as early as she could.
