Chapter 3

Marilynn's POV

Nate and I meet up after school like we do everyday to head to The Pound, it's not an actual pound, it's just a couch up in a huge oak tree that Nate and I found. We start walking to The Pound and then Nate realizes his dad told him to come home so he can mow the lawn. "I'll meet you there don't start without me!" Nate and I got bored just sitting there one day so we started writing songs and books and poetry and anything else we are able to write. So I ended up walking to The Pound by myself.

When I got there I noticed something under the tree. As I walked closer it moved and stood, it was a dog, a beautiful dog! It's golden fur had brown streaks in it like highlights and as it began barreling toward me I could tell that it was a pup, but that wasn't all, this pup had blue eyes rimmed with brown, this pup was a wolf.

Nate's POV

"Yes!" my dad wasn't home yet so I could mow the lawn and leave before he could scold me. I went out back to get the mower but the door to the shed was jammed. My moms cat thinks it's a dog and digs holes around the shed. Then the dirt piles up in front of the door."Ugh, you stupid cat!" I was so mad! I moved the dirt pile to the side with my hands then yanked the push mower out of the shed and started it up. It took me 15 min to do the back yard and by the time I was done and got to the front yard I could see my dad coming down our half mile long driveway!

GO MOWER GO! I'm pushing as fast as I can, grass is flying, and my feet hurt so much I might just topple over! go go Go Go GO GO! FINALLY! I'm done, and just on time, too. I shut the mower off and heave it into the shed then I, literally, bolt, to the house, through the kitchen, up the stairs, and into the bathroom. I sprang into the shower, rinsed off, put my best lazy t and pants on then skidded out the back door just as my dad pounded into the house.

I started walking when I got about five min into the woods and I could see The Pound from here. I got to the tree with our old green couch in it but Marilynn wasn't up there,"Ahhhhh!" Oh no! MARILYNN! I ran toward her scream and saw her laying on the ground with a... wolf, on top of her!

Then the wolf lay down on her stomach and started licking Marilynn's face. "Nate! look who I found, she's just a pup. Isn't she beautiful!" she continued playing with the wolf,"Marilynn, that thing is dangerous, get away from it!" I will admit, I was kind of jealous. "Please, can we keep her! Please!" she looked at me with her say yes face that she always gives me,"Please Nate we will train her and give her a name." then of course the dog runs at me and sits down right beside me. She glanced up at me with eyes that reminded me of mine."She is a beautiful dog. I, I guess, we can keep her. But! You have to find a place to keep her until we figure out a way to ask our parents, okay?" I fell for it, again,"YES! Ok, yeah, um, I can do that, I'll find a spot for her!" she ran to me and kissed me on the cheek,"Your the best!" she exclaimed.
