DAMON'S POV
I take a sip of my bourbon and roll my eyes when my phone rings. I roll them again when I see who it is.
"You're interrupting my drink."
"You miss me?" Katherine asks and I can hear the smirk in her voice.
"Where are you?"
"Lurking outside your window, pining away."
"What do you want?" I ask in annoyance.
"I'm homesick. What have I missed?"
I take a deep breath. "Well, Stefan's still Klaus' little prisoner and Elena still thinks she can save him and no one's thought of you since you left."
"And what about you?" She ignores my comment. "I'm sure that you've given up on your brother and it hurts you to know that Ashley is willing to do whatever it takes to get him back."
I decide to ignore her comment too. "I didn't give up on him. I just don't know where he is." I say and she stays quiet. "But you do. Are you trailing them?" I ask.
"A hybrid who wants me dead and his sidekick who's off the rails? I couldn't be further away."
"Which means you know exactly where they are." I conclude.
"All I know is that Klaus pitched a fit once his hybrids didn't work. Now he's looking for answers."
"How do you know that?"
"Spend 500 years running and there will be a few people along the way that are looking out for you."
"Is that what you're doing?" I ask. "Looking out for my brother?"
"Maybe, maybe not. I'm conflicted."
"Where are they?" I demand.
STEFAN'S POV
"Welcome back to Chicago, Stefan." Klaus smiles at me.
"What are we doing here?" I ask.
"I know how much you loved it here. Bringing back memories of the good old ripper days?"
"Blacked out most of them. A lot of blood, a lot of partying. The details are all a blur."
"Well, that is a crying shame." Klaus shrugs. "The details are what makes it legend. Word was the ripper of Monterrey got lonely, so he escaped to the city for comfort. It was prohibition. Everything was off limits then, which made everything so much fun."
***flashback~Chicago, 1920***
I'm making out with a girl in the front seat of my car. I take a deep breath before sinking my teeth into her neck, drinking, and killing her. I get out of the car and wipe the blood from my lips with a smile
I walk into the bar and Gloria spots me. She owns the bar and she's always happy to see me.
"Guess who my eyes have just spied, ladies? Looking for a good time, Mr. Salvatore?" She asks and I wink at her.
"Save me a dance, Gloria."
I reach for a glass of champagne but it's snatched up before I can. "Please, help yourself." I say and I turn my head to see a beautiful blonde.
"Oh, I always do." She smiles with a beautiful british accent. She leans in closer to me and licks my lip. "Careful, Mr. Salvatore. You're still wearing your date. She's lovely."
She's about to walk away but I grab her arm, spinning her around. "No, no, no. Who are you?" She just smiles before leaving me there.
