"Portland is fantastic. Once you get over all the whiny music and healthy looking people it is literally a breeding ground for werewolves." Klaus' voice echoes through the Salvatore's living room as Stefan has him on speaker phone.
Damon and I are standing next to each other while Stefan is sitting on the couch with the phone lying on the coffee table. Elena is sitting across from Stefan and we are all being extremely quiet so that everything goes as planned.
"Your father is dead." Stefan breaks the news to Klaus.
"What did you say to me?" Klaus snaps.
"Oh, my mistake. Not your actual father and not dead. Mikael. Daggered. What do you want me to do with the body?" Stefan asks him.
"Well, first, I want you to explain to me exactly what happened." Klaus says and we all look at each other. I hope everything went well enough earlier, so that Stefan will be able to tell Klaus what went down.
***One Hour Earlier***
"Let's say that Mikael followed Ashley in here. He tried to grab her so he could use her as bait." Stefan suggests as the four of us sit around the coffee table in the living room.
"And you what? Vervained him?" Elena asks.
"No. We vervained him. This guy is an Original. We need to make it realistic." Damon points out as we weave a lie that Stefan will be able to tell Klaus without compulsion getting in the way.
"Okay fine. We vervained him, and in the process discovered that he had a dagger." Stefan continues.
"Which he planned to use on Rebekah, but instead..." I start.
"We drove it through his heart." Stefan finishes.
"And what happens when he asks to see Mikael's body?" Elena asks everyone and I nod in agreement with her question.
"Good point." Damon nods too. "You, my brother, have been compelled to do what Klaus says. So the idea is to lure him back here and kill him. The last thing we need is you getting tripped up and tongue-tied."
"Well, don't look at me. I'm just in charge of getting him back here." Stefan scoffs.
"Klaus is smart. If we tell him that Mikael is dead, he'll want proof." I say.
"Then I shall be dead." Mikael says from behind us and we all turn to where he's standing in the doorway.
"What if he wants to see you in person?" I ask him as he steps down into the living room to join us.
"Well, that means our plan is working. Klaus will absolutely want to see me body. You lure him here and I will kill him." Mikael says with confidence.
"With what?" Stefan asks. "Those daggers won't work on him."
"Well, I'm in possession of a stake fashioned from the wood of the ancient white oak tree. The one that left ashes when it burned." Mikael explains.
"Where is it?" Stefan asks.
"Not here. The knowing of its location is my insurance policy."
"Against what?" Stefan asks another question.
"You leaving this in my heart." Mikael says, pulling out a dagger. "You see, a vampire can't dagger an Original without dying. So, it falls to you." He says handing me that dagger.
I guess it has to be me if the story is that Mikael tried to attack me. It can't be Elena. I look at the dagger and then at Mikael.
"You want me to actually dagger you?" I ask nervously. I've done this before to Elijah, but I'm not sure about doing it again.
