MALUNGKOT na ngumiti si Vergelyn habang nakatingin sa larawan ng kakambal na napili niyang ilagay sa inihanda nilang ofrenda. Today, they were celebrating the Dia de los Muertos or most commonly known as the Day of the Dead. The ofrenda is the altar they made in their family mausoleum inside their ranch. It has the photo of their dead relatives, crosses made of salt, their relatives' favorite foods and drinks, cempaspuchitls, candles and calaveritas de azucar. Around them, papel picado was hanging above.
"Estás Bien, David Luis?"
She turned her head to look at his brother who was holding a tray of pan de muertos for their ofrenda. Gumawi ang tingin niya sa pinsan na naka-upo sa tabi ng ofrenda at nakatingin sa kawalan. He had the white tablecloth wrapped around his head like a scarf which made everything look comical.
"Yo era débil." Dave said dully. "Naging mahina ang pananampalataya ko. Madali ako natukso ng mga demonyong nakapaligid sa akin. Papá said that he will give Cherry all my inheritance if I did not fix this mess."
Napakamot naman sa ulo ang kanyang kapatid, clearly confused. She took one of the calaveritas, gave it to Dave and told her brother to not worry about their cousin.
"You know what? I don't even care if Papá disown me. I just want everything to be back the way they were."
"As if gagawin ni Tío Zac yun. Anong nangyari?" curious na tanong niya dito.
He remove the tablecloth and leaned on her shoulders.
"She arrived in Manila a few days ago."
"I know." sabi niya dito.
His fiancé was supposed to join them for Dia de los Muertos. Kaya nagulat sila ng dumating ang pinsan na wala ang fiancé nito.
"Esos malditos Samaniegos. Sana nakinig na lang ako sa sinabi ni Altair."
She stiffened at the mention of his name. Naalala kasi niya na meron pa siyang kailangang gawin. She left without talking to him. She should really do something about that. Pero pagkatapos na lang siguro iyun ng problema nila kay Henry.
They found out that Henry was using their money to fund his illegal dealings. Ginagamit din nito ang pangalan nila to hide his identity in those transactions without them knowing. Mabuti na lang at mabilis na naagapan iyun through the help of, as what CJ fondly calls them, her Stray Kids.
"Ikaw? Anong balak mo?" tanong sa kanya ng pinsan.
"Hindi ko pa alam." sagot niya dito. "Renato Sinclair offered me a place in his clinic. I think will accept it."
"You should. Anything else? How about boys?" may himig pagbibirong sabi nito. Pero alam niya kung ano talaga ang gusto nitong malaman.
"I...I don't know." she told him honestly. "Hindi ko alam kung pareho kami ng nararamdaman. Sana pala nakinig ako kay Lorence, kinausap ko sana siya bago ako umalis."
"You're in love with him." tumango siya rito. "And you don't know if Altair felt the same way?"
Hindi niya nasagot ang tanong nito. Inalis nito ang pagkakahilig sa kanyang balikat at umakbay sa kanya.
"Parehas pala tayo." pabuntong hiningang sabi ni Dave. "I'm going to marry the girl I'm in love with since 15 and I don't even know if she likes me. Maybe she hates me now because of what happened."
"Hindi mo pa sinasabi sa akin kung anong nangyari?"
"Well, she hates waiting. Being hung up on. And I did all those things, kailangan daw kasi na hindi ko ipahalata na excited ako." he said pouting.
